I wonder how Ben is spinning the tremendous experience he had making the website for the quacky health food store or whatever he did.

He's soooo successful.

The job I'm applying for is looking for someone who is: a. At TJHSST. b. Taken a bunch of computer science classes. c. Taken some electronics classes. d. Experienced in using linux.

That is pretty much me exactly.

Also I have ben on ignore. I wasn't paying attention to the fact that he was posting until you pointed it out.

I know someone who is currently hiring a senior accountant (~60k), she trashes any resume over 2 pages pretty much without looking at it. She says one page is best, two pages she will look at. She goes through dozens of resumes, there's no time for long ones. She's the one who told me about putting specifics about what you did for the company that improved them; she says that's a sign that the resume had professional help. She's been an HR director for a long time.

About 60K, I heard. I suppose they go higher. Dunno exactly, I'm not the person doing the hiring.

$60,000 CDN = $58,167 USD.

Hm the exchange rate has lowered from last I checked...which was years ago. Figures.

EDIT: Nvm i was not thinking at all...Canadian money has pretty much always been worth less
It was worth slightly more last week, IIRC.

Yeah, as I'd mentioned, at his age, 1 page is loads.

HC, in your situation (in HS, applying to one specific place), it's hard to see any reasonable excuse to go over one page. Tailor your resume to the specific position/employer.

The nice thing about Word is that, IRL, almost everyone accepts it, even in online applications. And it can be easily modified in the future. It may not be optimal, but this is not a graphic arts project. It's about organization and conciseness of your information.

Since they are recruiting from your school, be sure you have some teacher recommendations available when they ask for references.

Good luck.

Kinda off topic but as far as job listings on Craigslist, how many of them are scams/spam? Once in a while, I check them out and sometimes I'm tempted to reply but it doesn't seem like a good idea to send in a resume with personal information.

Alright I've just applied to the job. I brought the resume down to a page. Keep in mind guys that I've done an unusually large number of things for a high school student. Also note that 6 out of 7 of my classes this year are at the college level. I checked it over with my dad and he thought it was good, so now fingers crossed

Thanks for all the advice, it was very helpful
Sounds good-- I saw this thread late but at your age a page should be sufficient. Mine generally is at two pages now but I frankly haven't looked at it since 2006 when I created one in a hurry for my current job. I find that since I have had 5 significant jobs (plus two secondments which are like separate jobs themselves) which are all relevant, it gets really tough to keep things to a page without eliminating important stuff

My cleaning lady "owns her own business"-- I don't

Are you saying she has greater career and financial success

Also just wanted to quote BK for Asher's enjoyment

If "owning your own business" is the barometer, I've got a sole proprietorship (on top of my day job) and my SO is incorporated...
