I kinda wish she didn't get the warning, just so we can keep her forever out of the country like Fred Phelps...

Nonexistent, considering no one did such a thing?

Actually, she was warned prior to entry.

In advance of her visit, a senior official at the school sent Coulter a letter warning her to use “restraint, respect and consideration” in her remarks and telling her to review the country’s hate speech and defamation laws.

What part of it?

Under section 318 of the Criminal Code of Canada, it is illegal to promote genocide. Under section 319, it is illegal to publicly incite hatred against people based on their colour, race, religion, ethnic origin, and sexual orientation, except where the statements made are true or are made in good faith. The prohibition against inciting hatred based on sexual orientation was added to the section in 2004 with the passage of Bill C-250.

The genocide one I could tolerate, but (2)Wilful promotion of hatred has no place in any democracy.
Only in America is hatred a central tenet for democracy.

This is complete bullshit. Whatever happened to free speech in this country.

"Banned in Canada" is about the best thing for your career elsewhere.

She wasn't banned. Her compadres canceled. She was allowed to speak, she chose not to.

It's interesting that I can instantly identify her as devil-spawn, just from her picture. Yet Christians love her and can't see it.

Whatever.
"Whatever" indeed. The basic premise of your argument was 100% wrong, and you treat it as a "Whatever" like it's inconsequential to your conclusion.

Canada is a free country and if people riot at hearing her the solution is to crackdown on those threatening violence not on those who are peacefully expressing their beliefs. Again, it was her people that canceled. Blame her for being a cowardly ***** if you're so upset about it.

I'm bothered it's even an issue. Canada should welcome speakers like Coulter.

Canada did welcome her. She was permitted to speak at every school she asked to.

In the end, she was a coward and canceled one of them. That's her own failing, not Canada's.

Again, this is complete bullshit.

Just as a clarification.

Let's say that I had a bad experience with a bunch of gypsies, and I urged people to not trust them. Would shouting in public "Don't trust gypsies!" be regarded as a good faith attempt?

To Ben's chagrin, the only time the hate speech law ever really gets used in practice is to smack down bigoted Christians preaching hate towards teh gays. It's also sometimes used in cases against douches like Mark Steyn who wrote incendiary islamophobic articles (which is bound to come up in this discussion from Ben -- but what he won't tell you is the charges against Steyn were dismissed). But they were brought... And Islam sucks. I really do hate it... Is it illegal for me to say that in Canada? Eh, maybe I dont mind the eastern brand, but the ME kind of Islam sucks. You asked what part of the law sucks? There you go...
