BCE and CE refer to the same time periods as BC and AD, and it's not like you can pretend they're centered around anything but the birth of Jesus. There's something vaguely obscene about historians trying to cover up the historical relevance of terminology to cater to somebody's feelings.

Of course, that goes double for the stuff reported in the article, assuming it's actually being implemented.
