Mastery of one's life is a relative thing.

While I admire rah's ability to live (mostly) disconnected, these days it's certainly the exception. I'm pretty connected (~90% of waking hours), but it's mostly for business reasons. With a cellular, a laptop and a 3G network, I can be in my office whenever and wherever I choose. And know the time without wearing jewelry.

It's really not too difficult to turn off the ringer.
