How fast do you drive?

Same as you, cruising speed 75-80mph on the highway. More 75 than 80 these days. Well, most highways. There are narrow and/or curvy ones where I'll drive a bit slower than that. If I'm on a long trip I may set cruise control to keep myself from speeding too much (likely set between 70 and 75).

I tend to stick closer to the speed limit on backroads, for the most part. I don't want to flatten a kid or somebody's cat.

I go 70-80, never been pulled over for speeding.

I haven't driven for ~ 16 years.

Yes, you burn more gas if you have a lead foot. The optimum speed is apparently about 55mph (though I imagine it must vary somewhat from car to car).

So in other words, I'm saving more gasoline - the others are not. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/tongue.gifhttp://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/cool.gif

True. Unfortunately, MrFun, you are a major source of smug pollution...

On a 1400 mile run to Florida, it's pretty significant.

MrFun, if you want to save on petrol, stick close behind a truck or other taller vehicle as much as you can. There are of course downsides to doing that....

When possible, I go 140-150 on highways - outside highways, usually on/a little below limits.

That might work for you, but that is way too slow for me - and retarded.

You prove my point.

WrinnaArraple 03-17-2010 11:29 PM

Usually about 2 mph, but if I get off the freeways, it gets up to almost 15 mph.

Anymnillulky 03-17-2010 11:35 PM

120km/h in 100km/h zones

15 over otherwise

It would raise my blood pressure more than two times over probably, and cause me to go psycho. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif

8-9 mph over the posted speed limit. Anything more attracts the attention of unwanted police officers.

9 over was always the rule in Chicago, but in Indy I could drive 20+ over and not worry about it. Recently they've finally begun to crack down, and I got a $225 slap as a result. So back to 9 over at most.

The only exception is if I have a "rabbit" in front of me (a car that is going a lot faster than me- draws out the "hounds") but I usually can't keep them at the sweet spot distance for long so even those exceptions are pretty short.

My standard speed is about 4-5 mph over the posted limit. Cuz I'm a rebel, yeah.

The fastest I've ever driven was on a stretch of highway between Tracy, CA and San Francisco. I was on a business trip and in a rather sporty rental car. The *posted* speed limit got up to 85 mph, and while going with traffic I topped 100 mph a few times.
Bull. 70 is the maximum in CA and even that's rare. It's 65 on most freeways.

Tracy->SF? You must have taken 580 which has a 65mph limit. You should be in jail you selfish sob.

I may have misremembered the posted limit, but you're wrong in that it was 205 and there is a stretch that is 70 MPH:

http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/roadinfo/70mph.htm#I-205

But as I said, I was going with traffic. I don't know about CA, but Oregon has a rule that you can't be cited for speeding if you're going with the bulk of traffic. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/tongue.gif They would have to have pulled over everyone.

Usually about 10mph over the speed limit.
