Yes most of his articles (the ones I've read so far) are quite iluminating. Its much easier to comprehend as an explanation for why East Asian capitalist economies don't do that much better than Western European capitalist economies than some vague notions of "conformity" or "creativity".

Now that you are no longer a communist, do you still have a problem with real nonmalleable differences between human populations? I have no difficulty believing that one human life is one human life regardless of abilities. But many people (my old self included) have a need to somehow demonstrate empirical equality as a precondition for our common humanity. Does spiritual equality (now that you belive in a immortal God given soul) help you reconcile this or would you still call any findings that showed important cognitive racial differences racist?


Note I am not even saying differences in inteligence. As the article shows the average Chinese and Briton may have equal IQs but have different values for the components.

AFAIK, the effect is consistent across groups and preserves the gaps between them. So the one-standard-deviation black-white-gap has remained constant even taking the effect into account, precisely because it applies to both groups. (Which shouldn't be happening if it was environment which was responsible for blacks lagging behind. (Not strictly true - it could happen if whites had the same environmental problems as blacks to begin with; but in that case, it means that if all other things are equal, blacks lag behind.))

It is always amusing to watch the religious attempting to rationalise away the facts when their religion has no room for them. (In your equality-addled mind, everyone is born equal, with equal abilities and equal potential, and the races are not different qualitatively or statistically.)

Sadly, neither reality nor science nor the common sense of the last six thousand years of human history (nor human history, come to think of it) support this view.

Lastly, "racist"? Are you serious?
