I must say, this runs contrary to all of my life experience with Edmontonians. "I say, old hoser, can I like flip your car over... cuz I'm like mad at the Oilers, yaknow eh?" |

By the way...
http://twitter.com/dantencer Oilers say the restaurant story is BS. They got a $19,000 bill that was way too high and asked for it to be re-checked. New bill was $12,381 ... They paid for it on credit card and left. Through the grapevine, I hear that the Flames had a similar experience at same place last year. Sounds like a scum bag owner padding bills, to me. |

The liquor portion of the bill rang in at $8,000, Terrigno says.
$8K for food for 45 people in 90 minutes? “They protested it and the bill was adjusted by $6,000. They paid the adjusted bill and left a generous tip of about $1,800, and left the restaurant,” said Watt, who didn’t attend the party. “They have the receipt to prove they paid the adjusted bill.” ... In the end, Terrigno says the players left $12,000 after the northwest restaurant relented and knocked $6,000 off the bill. They didn’t include the mandatory 18 per cent tip for groups, he alleges. Somebody is not telling the truth. Only problem for scum-bag shyster, he showed the paid bill to CTV. http://calgary.ctv.ca/ ![]() |

Everything you quoted matches up exactly with the revised bill in the picture. The mandatory 18% tip is well in excess of the amount they gave. |

I don't see any tip in this. Do you?
They may well have paid the tip on the 'revised' bill, but I haven't seen anything that says they did. And even if they did, you are valiantly trying to deflect from the main issue which was they demanded the discount ('revised bill') after the fact and allegedly were abusive to the staff. Showing that they may or may not have paid an acceptable tip (which they hilariously claim 'generous') does not change that. |

What the **** are you trying to pull here, nye? They show both. The original is $13,556 plus GST. The second is $9,993 plus GST with an $1888 grat written in. |

It is for the $12K amount mentioned in the stories. It doesn't matter what the **** you write on that bill. If it's not on the MERCHANT'S COPY of the credit card receipt (pictured in the one of the guy holding up the bill, with the EMPTY tip field), it cannot be charged to the credit card. |

No. The real issue is that the police should have been called if the Oilers players tried to shirk ~6K in charges. Not the media. If the restaurant did go back and reduce the bill (for whatever reason) and hand it to the players, then they cannot call the police after the fact and complain legally that the Oilers didn't pay. This is law 101. You also keep avoiding the fact that the real issue here is that the Oilers were allegedly abusive, which is NOT AT ALL surprising given their performance this year, state of inebriation (you've seen the bill for alcohol), etc. It's pretty ****ing obvious to me that the main problem was the Oilers didn't pre-arrange a pay-by-the-bottle system, in which case restaurants charge you the menu price -- per serving. It sounds like the restaurant went back and adjusted it after the Oilers became abusive. As for the tip situation, it's a "he said she said" thing. The only thing we have to go on are the receipts the owner showed the media -- the one in the CTV clip has writing on it that may've been written by the owner himself to show what they SHOULD have paid (the mandatory 18% tip). In any case, the receipt in the clip is NOT the one the restaurant can use to charge people -- those receipts are not signed, they're not merchant copies. |

Again, I am flabbergasted that you do not comprehend how credit card receipts work. If there is a tip in the MERCHANT COPY field of the receipt, it must be INCREDIBLY SMALL because it is not at all visible. The copy the card holder signs is the legal document that the merchant must maintain for at least twelve months in case there is a dispute. Showing a merchants copy, unsigned and unitemised, is completely useless except that it shows the scum-bag put the whole $12K as charge and 0 grat. |

I may have that wrong.
They show you the itemised slip. You produce platic. They bring you a slip to sign. The signature may be folded under in the shot of the scum-bag. Still, there is the discrepency of the itemised bill showing an $1888 grat, and the merchants copy showing what has to be zero. The guy is scum-bag. He pulled a switch on his staff, but the laugh is on him as he showed the copy with grat to CTV. |
