Default How do non-believers explain this?
I just read that article elsewhere.

What would his explanation be if both mother and baby had died?

Spoiled brat from birth, instead making noises like every good new born the baby played dead to get more attention. No wonder, just like the mother

Don't be silly. God was making the baby appear dead so he could swoop in with His miracle and save the day. It's how God spends His time.
He needs a better hobby. Perhaps stamp collecting?

Where's the excitement in that? With His current hobby God can get the faithful excited.

A problem with believers and non-believers alike is the assumption that God works exclusively through irrational, fantastic, non-scientific means, and that all rational, scientifically observed phenomena have no room for God.
Which is why I would like to hear a scientific explanation of this, if there is one. Best not to assume, one way or the other.

What is wrong with asking the perspective of non-believers about this?

I would be curious as to any scientific explanation that a non-believer can provide.
Just because we don't know the answer to this particular case doesn't mean it has to be divine intervention. As to a scientific explanation: even as a doctor it's most likely almost impossible without knowing the details of the case.

A rather obvious answer from a non-believer...

I agree - it could be either divine intervention, or scientifically-based. I'll leave this as a reply to Darius, as well.

God has created the world around us and science is a tool for understanding the world around us. God works in and through the world, so his works and his deeds can, in one way or another, be understood by science.
So if I build a model airplane and leave it at the park you can tell who made it?
