Nixon was so paranoid, so prejudiced, so full of himself that the tapes often read like parody. I doubt anyone intends to defend his misogynist, racist, bitter, paranoid views in current times. He considered himself above the law, and beyond the reach of society's calls for conformity. However, he despised others who would not conform to those same calls.

Rah: Possibly.
Kuci: Nixon was so corrupt he was forced from office. The only President so condemned in US history. What makes you say he was a great President? Were you alive during his years in office? He was a genuine hypocrite and used Government agencies to serve his own ends on a scale never seen before or since. ![]() |

Rah: Possibly. His dealings with CHINA were considered historic at the time. He also had the Vietnam war to deal with. I don't think he was any more corrupt than his contempories. JFK was not the saint that he was portrayed as. It would have been interesting to see how history would think of him if he hadn't been shot. To this day I still believe that Nixon was a good president. He may have been a bigoted ass-hole but being an ass is almost a prerequisite of being a good president. Good men like carter, ford, bush I weren't reelected for a good reason. |

Rah: He was elected based in part on his "secret plan to end the war." He then escalated the war into Cambodia and Laos. He asked the head of the FBI to destroy evidence, which nearly happened. He used former CIA people to spy on his '72 opponent, and they too got caught. He wasn't just corrupt in his use of the government, but incompetent to boot. I don't think he was worse as far as taking money was concerned, but using campaign funds to buy silence from the Watergate crew is a proven event. That's obstruction of justice. The list goes on. China was the work of his Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger. ![]() He **** in your nest and the country is still living with the byproduct of it today. |
