Default Senator Ted Kennedy collapses
He collapsed at the luncheon for Congress. His seizure lasted for several minutes, apparently, and he was taken out on a stretcher.

Sen. Byrd apparently had to be taken out during this, as he was "overcome" by the incident...

Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Massachusetts, collapsed Tuesday afternoon during a luncheon held for President Barack Obama in the Capitol's Statuary Hall.

Sen. Kennedy, pictured earlier this month, was diagnosed with a brain tumor last May.
2 of 2 Paramedics were called to the scene at 2:35 p.m. ET.

Kennedy, who appeared to be suffering from a seizure, was transported to a hospital.

"Senator Kennedy had a seizure" which "lasted a while," a Republican House member told CNN.

The member said Kennedy was still experiencing seizures when he was put in a wheelchair and taken out through the Rayburn room, located to the side of Statuary Hall.

Kennedy, 76, was first elected to the Senate in 1962.

The source did not know whether President Obama saw it happening because "there was still a lot of talking" and the program was still going on - the incident happened at the end of lunch.

This source was sitting at table in front of Kennedy and said Kennedy was sitting with former Vice President Walter Mondale and Senator Daniel Inouye

This is why I didn't enter the celebrity dead pool. He would have been on my list and then I'd now be wishing him to croak it. :/

You know him personally?
Many of us have been around long enough to remember the legacy of this Kennedy family member playing out in real time.

Hopefully he'll take the time to repent and be welcomed home in the Church.

When a law suit was threatened by VW, National Lampoon ran the following retraction:

"Even if Ted Kennedy had driven a Volkswagen he wouldn't be president today."

Only the National Lampoon

I hope he's all right. He seemed like a good and effective legislator.

I can't find myself particularly distraught by this, given which two senators it was.

He is one of the best. One of the only ones continually fighting for the common man.

If he hadn't been a Kennedy, he probably would have gone to jail. A lot of people dislike him for that. It has nothing to do with his politics.

Yeah, if he had been black, he'd probably still be in jail,
But since he was a Kennedy, he gets to be a senator for life.

You don't have to be a conservative radio talk show host to hate him.

I can't understand how people can speak so highly of him knowing what he did.

Political dynasties

I don't wish him any harm, but neither would I be particularly upset if (when) he dies. I don't know enough about his political career to have much of an opinion on his, um, public service. I know he got away with some **** a long time ago.

Political dynasties
As far as real accomplishments go, he's the only member of the dynasty who's worth a damn. He was fairly key on a lot of the major legislation over the past few decades regarding minimum wage, immigration, civil rights, health care, and education. I doubt if there's anyone currently in Congress who's more accomplished. He might not be a particularly good person, but he's a great Senator.

Beside his cheating in college and cheating on his wife, some of his other charater flaws came out in his carreer as a senator.

Fifteen years later during the Clinton administration filibusters were presumably also abhorrent to Senator Kennedy, who then wanted to outlaw them entirely. On Jan. 28, 1998, he argued: " The president and the Senate do not always agree [on judicial nominations]. But we should resolve these disagreements by voting "yes" or "no." Three years later Kennedy put politics above principle and became a champion of the filibuster. He also threatened to boycott any work of the Senate that was not essential for national security if a Republican majority was trying to outlaw filibusters by amending the Senate rules. always full of principles.

On Jan. 17, NewsMax reported a story that most of the liberal media ignored: Kennedy had admitted his own membership in the Owl Club, which does not allow women, and was banned from the Harvard campus. He had paid dues to the all-male club ever since his student days.

Faced with evidence of his hypocrisy, Kennedy said, "I am going to get out of it as fast as I can."

Always has an answer when he gets caught. If he's the only member who's worth a damn, the standard has been set pretty damn low.

Thanks rah for pointing out what many here do not know, and that is Teddie is a member of a family who has, in most cases, presented themselves a family set above the rules of our society due to privelege and circumstance.

My whole posting of the thread was more I wouldnt wish anyone to suffer and after having posted this yesterday, was drifting back in time about him when you posted the VW pic and I was on the Mary Jo thought, seems just yesterday sir.

always full of principles.

I don't know why you chose that example. Basically everyone flip-flopped on getting rid of filibusters. Republicans opposed the move when that would hurt them, and then supported it when that would help them. The only reason why it didn't happen is that the Dems agreed to cave on some odious nominations.
