Default When Obama wins, is it a good idea to prosecute Bush & Co.?
There is also the problem that some people from Obamas own party may have been complicit in the crimes of some Republicans.....

Yaaaah... what was the vote on the Iraq War resolution?

"Sorry, Vice President Biden, you have to go away too"

Whooo, tough one. On the one hand, like you said, you need to send a message that corruption and (criminal) lies are bad. On the other, we need unity right now. Prosecuting Republicans, even for legitimate offenses, would open a huge can of worms that is perhaps, and unfortunately, best left closed.

I think they should. It would show exactly what the Obama administration is all about, fighting the battles of 2000.

They should, but only for actual crimes committed. Not gross incompetence. That probably means only getting some of the mid-level flunkies.

At the very least the Obama administration needs to be a lot more transparent and keep politics out of non-political positions.

Because it is the right thing to do in a moral and a legal sense?

I think that is a very reasonable compromise.

Prosecute anyone who blew off a subpena or ignored a court order and send them to jail, for that. Do it for the clear, obvious things with no legal basis at all for challenging.

My gut says "Do the right thing, send these criminals to jail" but that is better than nothing.

Vesayen, did we prosecute Clinton for banging hired help while ignoring terrorism? Move on. You are so tired.

I don't think Obama is that dumb, he pretty much threw the left-wing kook blog-o-sphere types overboard once he had the nomination pretty much sewn up. Those will be the only ones calling for Bush's head. Since Obama doesn't need them anymore, why rile up the rest of America. To send a message to the next President that thinks he's above the law. The GOP impeached Clinton for lying about an affair and suffered a backlash. Now the Dems are afraid to go after people who lied to get us into a stupid war.

I think it's unlikely they'll ever manage to pin anything serious on Bush, but some aides could reasonably be prosecuted for various lesser things.

Vesayen, did we prosecute Clinton for banging hired help while ignoring terrorism? They did. Senate voted not to remove him from office, there was a trial.

Since you have a reading comprehension problem, I removed the apparently confusing passage. Here.

Lying about a blowjob is not the same as having ignored subpenas revealing CIA operatives to the media, holding people in endless detention without charging them which the Supreme Court has stated is unconstitutional, violated the geneva convention, filling the justice department with political apointees and firing those who won't corrupt their station for partisan politics.

One threatens the very existance of a land ruled by laws and the other constitution. The other, is lying about a blowjob.

And you know what? The Republicans tried to impeach the guy who lied about a blowjob. What will I do when Bush is gone? Rejoice and hope the country fixes 8 years of damage. You ask your question as if I am entertained that my country is on the verge of collapse, I am outraged and hoping it changes. That is not a difficult question.

I suspect Obama is smart enough not to actively prosecute anyone, or have them prosecuted, unless they broke the law outside of their respective duties. Since most of that gets swept under the rug in Washington anyway, there will probably be very very little done.

No. The Dems need to govern. Repair the damage.

Bush and others have shown US is their *****. Like an abusive husband who after beating and raping his wife will be forgiven, so will the Chimperor and pals.

I'm gonna try that line the next time I get pulled over by the police. I suspect that won't work for me, and it shouldn't work for the government (and shame on you for suggesting that we should sweep it under the rug for the sake of family peace).

In fact, Bush & Co. are responsible for far, far worse crimes, but they aren't alone. The Democratic leadership is complicit in these crimes as well. For Obama to go after Bush, he'd have to go after Reid and Pelosi as well. Furthermore, to go after Bush would also mean deconstructing the imperial presidency, which would mean abandoning the unconstitutional power collected in that office. The Democrats want their hands on that power. They aren't about to destroy it. So humanity and democracy loses.

Yeah, what was it that Dems taunted Republicans with when they were accumulating all that power into the Bush Presidency? You just made Hillary Clinton the most powerful President ever or something like that?

Is Obama the chosen one who will bring balance to the federal government like Anakin brought balance to the force?
