I can't do it. The game's over. But I did build some industry. I've had like 4 factories.
I did a Krakow game lately. ALl the time I was waiting for a right moment to stab some of the three empires in the back, but they were constantly allied to each other ![]() |

Once I've had a fascinating game as Mexico. Scared of possible US invasion, I allied with teh Confederacy and pawned USA, capturing Washington a couple of times, and conquering much of it, not to mention much of Canada. But the laugh was on me, when CSA has finally fallen and I was alone: again I managed to get close to Washington with my armies, but USA had no intention in signing peace. I had no idea how to win this war and I had to stop.
Btw, I have a question about immigration. Usually a lot of Germans come to settle in my provinces, but they disappear as quick as they came. Why? |

oh. That's interesting.
Strangely, in my last game I built a factory, and four 100-person groups of factory workers showed up. They weren't assimilated or anything. Anyway, how is WC possible? I played Russia, won 7 or so wars against Austria and allies and was far from swallowing it all. Its provinces costed too much % for that. In some games, Wroclaw / Breslau alone costs 34% (I know it's not Austria then). |

I've never done a WC, but as Russia it should go something like this:
1. Build lots of lots of units 2. Annex China in one go(possible with uncivs) 3. Now you have a huge amount of everything. Use it. I think Ricky still has a loophole present in most PI games: The ability to annex all of a country except the capital in one go by occupying all land except the capital and let it be taken by rebels. Then, when the government collapses, you get all you occupy. Also, when you are big and unstoppable, nothing forces you to wait till the peace treaty of 5 years ends... |

A lot depends on which techs you've researched, what your government policies are (who is in office), and the value of the goods that factory is producing. Also the higher your education rate, the more open your society is to outsiders, and your relative standing with other nations all effects how many immigrants you get and if they assimilate to your national pops. Liberals or socialists are best though you must have open slots for workers to have jobs and remember that the USA gets a hard coded advantage when it comes to attracting immigrants. Also remember that people tend not to leave their homeland unless they are unhappy (high taxes, war, tariffs which prevent them from buying goods they want, etc...) so if the Europeans are peacefully developing quickly then the flow of immigrants will become a trickle. Lastly some techs make unhappy pops move to colonies instead of other countries; that's how the UK & France populate their colonies without losing everyone to the Americans. ![]() There are still ways of working around this (I like to take over parts of China, put people out of work, thus forcing them to migrate to USA). There are third party utility programs which help too by automatically splitting all pops in the game to their smallest number thus filling employment slots and forcing more realistic migration patterns. These utilities work especially well for countries like Russia or the UK which need to get lots of pops moving around their empires to correctly populate places. |

I remember reading an AAR of a guy who did a WC with that little one province minor next to Serbia. Something on M, Macedonia perhaps. In the original Vicky there was a fellow who did a WC with Hawaii. He saved up his money and jacked up to full tariffs and bought a single colony. Then he sold that colony for two colonial claims, and kept trading until he got two that he liked and could claim. When he claimed them, he declared war on Liberia. Annexed Liberia and doubled his population, and managed to sign a white peace with the US, after they failed to take Hawaii.
Then he became civilised, and from there he was able to conquer states like Madagascar enroute to conquering the whole world. One of the biggest advantages that a small nation has is that they can pass social reforms for the entire world early on. |

I'd love to have a successful Texas game. I just tried it once so far and got spanked by Mexico right away. I didn't see the kidnap Santa Ana option.
But I'm still figuring the game out, so in time perhaps... I haven't managed a WC in 1.4 with Texas, but here's how you beat Santa Ana. Prep: 1.Cut science to nil. Max military funding, Max unit size. 2. Max taxes (100 percent). You don't have any workers to worry about devolving, and you don't mind losing your officers either. This should give you a bit of a profit, your first move is to increase your manpower, so you need to import cloth for shirts. When you manage to import exactly 10 shirts, convert your largest pop to soldiers, and convert the soldiers to max out your two calvary divisions. Merge them, you should have about 6k of 10k possible. This is going to be your hammer. Do not reinforce anybody else. Leave the artillery in your capital. Send the other two smaller divisions north to take colorado claims from Mexico. You will need to sell these. Once you have 10 shirts, stop importing. Send Sam Houston south into Mexico. Your goal is to walk in and capture the Mexican capital and sue for a white peace. If you get there before the Mexicans take all of Texas, you will get a white peace and not lose any of your country, although you will lose prestige. During the war, and after you've recruited troops and all, you should pass the bill for all of the social reforms. It will cost a fair bit, but you'll make that back when you sell your colonies to the US for mega bucks. Give that a try, you should be able to beat Mexico with just that. |

Now uncivilized nations cannot purchase or trade lands which do not already border their own. |

Hmm, maybe I need the patch, but this isn't working for me. I can't max my taxes, there is a cap on them. I bought the shirts and converted a pop unit to soldiers but it didn't increase my manpower. |

You have to pick the right population unit (the largest one). And sorry about the tax raising, Texas does cap your taxes. I forgot about that.
It will raise your manpower up from 0 to about 8 or so under full military sliders and max units. You need to max out both of those sliders, push the three tax sliders as far as they can go, and cut all your education funding. Oh, and each of those steps are sequential. If they aren't done in the right order you are screwed. Took ma a long time to figure out. |
