My opinion: it's racist bullshit, with statistics used to promote racial divide

I guess my opinion is:

1. It clearly is, at least somewhat, racist in its basis; particularly the crime statistics (carefully chosen) emphasize this.

2. It is racism encased in a less racist tone, trying to appeal to those who are racist, sort of, but don't want to be or think they're not. There are a LOT of people, like my dad, who fit in this category.

3. It will appeal to a LOT of people, because not only are there a lot of people in this category, but it fits the tone of what they are wanting to hear - especially with the current recession/sort of/whatever.

Wait wait wait.....how was Jena a hoax? I definitely remember a bunch of NPR stories about it and it definitely wasn't from that crazy lady with Alzheimer's because she is only on in the mornings (can't stay up as late as 4 pm).

Both sides of this ongoing debate have valid points. On one hand, unimaginable atrocities were committed by the British/US government against Africans (and other groups, of course) with the slave trade/slavery, racist state governments, Jim Crow, segregation, etc. The promise of forty acres and a mule wasn't fulfilled, the handling of Reconstruction after the Civil War was bungled..the list goes on and on. However, for a lot of (white) people, this is all simply history. A lot of people get angry at the idea of paying reparations or being told they should feel guilty about what whites did fifty, a hundred or two hundred years ago. At the same time, there are a lot of businesses and individuals who owe their current wealth to slavery, so the issue is murky.

Anyway, my point is, letters like the OP whose message is 'Get over it, if it wasn't for whites you'd still be living in an African shithole, so be happy with what you've got' are cheap, useless, and undeserving of attention.

Apologies in advance for a possibly unclear or sloppy post, it's getting late.

Mexico has their own problems. South Americans going through Central America to Mexico, which is evidently an improvement, which is a sad statement.

The part that is particularly racist, is Buchanan's "positive" slant on slavery, and how he insinuated that slavery was a good thing in that it brought Africans to America.

I agree that black americans victimize themselves too much. Latin American blacks like from Cuba or Puerto Rico, or blacks from ex british colonies like Jamaica, Barbados etc have a very different attitude.
Really? Look to Toronto to see how this theory fails.

As to the OP: a tripe that wasted my bandwidth.

The OP is choke-full of rhetorics. It focuses on very narrow facts, and calls to the imagination of the reader, so that its barely veiled racist agenda gets to look like common sense :vomit:

Section 8 housing is a program where landlords voluntarily rent out a certain number apartments for a significantly lower rent (often half or less than the rent of the rest of the apartments) to people who qualify for certain income guidelines (fairly liberal guidelines, actually - I qualified for this my first year out of college on a retail employee's salary around $16k/yr). In exchange, the landlords get significant tax breaks.

Basically, it's a way to avoid the debacles that are public housing (tons of crime, de facto segregation, little chance to succeed, etc.) and still provide very affordable housing that is integrated with the rest of society. When done right, it works very well; unfortunately the system can be gamed just like any system.

If you are referencing genetic/hereditary diseases, there is no need to diagnose by race even in those situations. Doing so is actually misleading, since the "race" delineations don't conform to the genetic delineations, and certainly not everyone of a given "race" has the same hereditary line.

Perhaps if you are simply joking about something like a dermatologist... but then you're obviously taking what I said out of context.
