I throw my hands out the window and scream that I give up. Whatever it was, I'm SO sorry.

There simply is no justification for that kind of uncalled for brutality. No sane person would buy into the claim that the man ever physically resisted. At a bare minimum the cop should have been fired and the city of Austin should get its ass sued to force them to control their police and remind them they're public servants.

I agree with dongeal the guy was being an ass. Tasering was the first step before the guy was handcuffed and thrown into the back of a squad car. Sometimes things the cops ask are stupid like this last trip we went on, i was pulledover in NM for failing to maintain my lane with high gust winds. The cop asks for my stuff and when i give it to him he ask where i was coming from. I said well since i have a texas drivers license and plates my guess would be from texas. he said thats it, get to the back of the vehicle. I said ok, and i did, and he proceeded to ask like a million questions and then did a soberity test on me which i passed cause it was 730 am and i just woke up to drive, He let me go with a ticket. I said when leaving i know he did it cause i had out of state plates. the cop told me to be on my way before he changes his mind but i didnt get tasered

The time to argue your case is in court. Not on the side of a highway with tons of metal passing by at 65mph. Stop endangering officers' lives needlessly, then complain to me about a taser.

If I ever take a road trip to the deep south, I'll be sure to wear a rubber (suit...)

The guy was a big dude. There is no garuntee that if they went hands on the cop would win. So why take the chance?

I think cops are too quick to use their fancy new toy, but I must agree with Donegeal & Aeson that when the cops asks for your documentation, you effing provide it - you don't sit their and argue with him.

That being said:

1. I can't see the video, because I'm at work.
2. From the posts in this thread, it definitely sounds like the cop was out of line.

He took an aggressive step towards the officer. If I were in that situation, I'd have done the same thing.

Make a move, make even a hint of a move at that point, and .

Like I'm (or any cop) going to want to fight in a situation like that.

It's about using judgment, and it was used poorly here.
