Smirnoff is a loyal mixer workhorse, and Smirnoff Export Strength (100 proof) always does the trick . Gordons is cheap and very good for the price. Skyy isn't bad, and better than Svedka, Finlandia, and Danzka, but Absolut probably owns this price range. Three Olives is interesting, but it's English, and drinking English vodka is weird.

A notch above would be the trusty shooters and martini vodkas. Ketel One is overrated, Grey Goose deserves its reputation, and Belvedere is up there too. Level is good, but overmarketed. Ciroc is good, and undermarketed. My personal favourite here, though, would be Zyr. I like Stoli, but it's overrated too, and carries too much yuppie baggage. Stoli does do flavours pretty well (Stoli Bluberri ). I hear good things about Vox, but have never tried it. Hangar One lived up to its hype, though I've never tried it unflavoured.

For sipping, though, I like Armadale, Chopin, and perhaps my favourite vodka of them all, Jewel of Russia. Straight from the freezer, out of a chilled glass When I'm feeling particularly wealthy, I shoot the stuff too Whatever's the cheapest, usually Morrinov (Morrison's own brand ). That's when I feel like vodka. Usually it's bottle-conditioned ale or a good egg.

Though a Grey Goose martini, straight up, just mildly dirty, is quite sublime, no matter what Drogue says

Stoli, but I don't drink a lot of vodka. As said, gin is for martinis, and I do like martinis.

Now we should have a poll on the best whiskey (bring in the entire family and put in Scotchs and Bourbons as well ).

Personally, I like the ones that have been distilled 2-3 times since then there is still some flavor to them. If you are going to make a mixed drink though there is no point to having an expensive vodka. Sure, you don't want the cheapest stuff distilled in old oil barrels but an averaged priced vodka will mix just fine and an expensive vodka will taste the same when mixed. Expensive vodkas are for shooting straight.

I got this as the post-message-posting quote:

The real man's Bloody Mary:
Ingredients: vodka, tomato juice, Tobasco, Worcestershire
sauce, A-1 steak sauce, ice, salt, pepper, celery.

Fill a large tumbler with vodka.
Throw all the other ingredients away. QFMFT
