What is healthy?

0. I'm addicted http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/frown.gif

Right now I am thinking 20 hours a week, but actually, that is a lot of time. Although I know it isn't all that much compared to the amount of time I have often played games.

JM
(if you think about it, 10 hours on weekends + 4 hours per evening comes out to be 30 hours... easy, and I have easily played 20 hours on weekends and 6 hours on evenings (50 hours) and still did other things.)

Pekka-esque serial posting, there Jon.

A conservative figure would be about 10. An hour on working days and 2-3 hours on weekends. Then no one could blame you for addiction http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif

unsamiSlini 07-12-2007 04:13 PM

I said it's a conservative figure http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif If you play 10 hours a week, then probably even people who dislike games and gaming wouldn't claim that you're a gamer addict.

Which is what's so crazy about Civ, a session shorter than 2 hours isn't really doing anything.

It depends on what you want. If you want to have enough time for other stuff, you should be defining the number yourself, not using an arbitrary number.

SappyAppy 07-12-2007 07:42 PM

I'd say a red flag is 15 hours on 3 consecutive days. If you hit that, chances are you're not getting something done that you should.

Flistelib 07-12-2007 07:56 PM

If you frequently arrive late at your job because of it and get fired, if your grades plunge because of it, if you don't take care of yourself or the people around because of it

That's WAY too much. One's red flag should go up before reaching such a situation.

Edited for clarity Aren't all games essentially an escape mechanism? "Disrupts your life" (in any way) is a sure sign of addiction. Addictions, aka life disruptors, are always unhealthy. I voted: for the "so you have time for everything else" option. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/idea.gif

Aren't all games essentially an escape mechanism? Yes.

I admit I do this. But I tried the life thing, it didn't work. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif. I'd rather play computer games. You're not being very nice to your mother. Based on what you've told about her to us, she's desperate for seeing some little Dis-babies, and you aren't providing http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/neeschud.gif http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/nono.gif
