"Washington says would protect against a potential threat from Iran."
What a BS! I perfectly understand the politicians must pretend it is deployed against Iran. But here at Poly we hold frank discussions, we don't need to pretend. So why can't you guys just acknowledge the simple fact that it is directed primarily against Russia? ![]() |

Not for the moment, of course. But once deployed, it will be perfectioned in the future. And Russian missile technology and tactics will also be advanced. What I don't understand is why the big deal is being made of this. In a conflict that involves any need for defensive systems to protect against Russian missiles, life as we know it on this planet is over even if the American system could somehow be made 50% effective vs Russian weapons. That's a very large if, and an unbelievably high effective rate and the world is still screwed. |

Incidentally, if this missile shield were truly directed against the South, it would be better deployed more to the south. The present location is perfectly positioned precisely against the Russian attack. Only if drawing a line between capitals. Missile systems don't all work along those lines. |

Very well. Just acknowledge that the present deployment is a legitimate concern for Russia too. I can't grant that Russia's concerns over the deployment of defensive systems that would be ineffective versus Russian attack in NATO members is legitimate. I will grant that Russians are anxious over losses in sphere of influence after the collapse of the Soviet Union. I think it's time to move on, but I understand that is hard for some. |

But with a potential to become effective in the near future. I will grant that Russians are anxious over losses in sphere of influence after the collapse of the Soviet Union. I think it's time to move on, but I understand that is hard for some. Now whatever problems you create can be written off for Russia's grievancies over the sphere of influence. How convenient! ![]() |

You seem to overemphasize that currently this missile shield is helpless against Russia. True. But it firmly sets up a potential that it won't be the case on the future. This mere fact destroys the strategic balance. The balance that changes is that a rogue state could now not be sure that a single missile or a small number of them will strike targets in NA or Europe. Perhaps. |

I think the bigger question here is who the **** cares what Russia and Pooty-Pout thinks? They literally couldn't pay their military to do jack, given the state has almost no money since the fall of the USSR, let alone participate in a nuclear war which would utterly devastate an already hobbled Russia.

Your info is outdated. And don't extrapolate what you don't care about to other (presumably more serious) people. |
