I believe these are things that the demons are using to scare you into not thinking of God. They can see that you now want to obey God and are trying to stop you. As you said you disagree with them you do not want them, they are not from you, so long as you reject them then you are not sinning.

I would simple cross myself (I'm not sure if you know about how to, if not just ask or look it up) and say "O Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner." and try to ignore them.

Do not spend endless time worrying about it, keep praying it should get better in time.

In Christ.

Kayla, I agree with Daniel, anytime bad thoughts pop into your head just start praying and if possible ask others to pray for you too.

Dear Kayla,

I quote below something that St. Nikodimos of the Holy Mountain wrote about blasphemous thoughts. It has been helpful to me in my own spiritual struggle. I recommend buying or borrowing a copy of this book (bibliographic information follows the quotation), since in it St. Nikodimos treats at length the causes and cures of evil thoughts.

In Christ,
Thomas Carroll

8. How the Spiritual Father is to care for those with thoughts of blasphemy and doubt

If it happens that you confess some people who have thoughts of blasphemy, or some people who always are in doubt and fear concerning their health and life, or concerning the salvation of their soul, on account of their thoughts, you should tell the first ones to disregard those blasphemous thoughts and not to think whatsoever that they are a sin, because they are not their own creations, but rather of that hater of good, the devil. Or you may tell them to rebut those blasphemous thoughts with these words: "Get thee behind me, Satan! I shall worship the Lord my God, and Him only will I adore. Your pain and your blasphemy shall return upon your own head in the present and in the age to come," just as St. John of the Ladder wisely counsels. To those having incessant doubts, either caused by depression and hypochondria, or by the devil, as a test or allowance of God, you should tell them: 1) to pray continuously to God; 2) not to believe in their thoughts, but rather to believe and to accept those things which you say to them; and 2) if it is possible, give them in writing the rule which you appoint for them, because as they are always in doubt, they will quickly be able to believe that which they see written.

P.S. -- The cures indicated in this book presuppose that the sufferer is confessing to an Orthodox spiritual father. In addition to getting a copy of the book, I recommend finding and confessing to an Orthodox spiritual father.

Beloved-in-Christ Kayla,

You are fortunate that it is just evil thoughts. St Paul writes that he even did the things he didn't want to do - and I do too. Even Our Lord Jesus was tempted, how can you become like Him unless you are too?

These thoughts are quite normal, and show that you have faith enough that the demons think of you as a worthwhile enemy.

Although you are not orthodox, could you try and find a spiritual mentor, an orthodox priest or a monk or a nun would be my suggestion as this is their daily work, but your pastor perhaps? Choose someone older than you who has experience of this. I find that having someone who I trust completely, and with whom I can be completely open and honest helps me - it's not so much their advice as the sharing which helps. You are undertaking what we call Spiritual Warfare, and it's very very hard to do without the church around you.

Remember also that you are now in our prayers,
Love, Richard.

You are meant to ignore the blasphemous thoughts that will always attack you. You are not held accountable for them even though they seem to be invading you and you struggle against them.

Say like our Lord did "Get behind me satan!"

Kayla, we all have these thoughts. As others have already advised, just ignore them. They are unimportant.

Hi to all,

I have recently encountered these obstacles too, I have realised that these thoughts tend to get stronger and stinger on a daily basis. I read the bible nearly every day and also put my cross before I drink anything or eat anything and ask God to bless the food before putting in my mouth. Also I fast on Wendsdays and Fridays and it seems I start to understand a lot of things I read. I also have cut down dramatically in watching TV be aide I see slot of evil and I dont like it.

But to the point like I stated above since I have found my strength to become a better Christian Orthodox these thoughts also attact me on a daily basis. It is also good to say "Be gone behind me Satan" I hope this helps .

God bless you all
Regards
Pavlos

It reminds me of this quote from St. John Kolobos:

I act as a man sitting under a tree who looks attentively around him. This man as soon as he sees wild beasts coming towards him to eat him, immediately climbs up the tree, and the animals, after coming up to the tree, walk around for a while and go away.

And I, as soon as I observe mental beasts coming toward me in passionate thoughts, immediately rise up in my mind to the Lord, the beasts cannot get to me, and they are forced to scatter every which way.

The Jesus Prayer helps me. "Lord Jesus, forgive me, a sinner."

Well they are not sin because you are not agreeing with them. Vocalize them in a room where you are alone, like I am thinking of this and I do not agree to them. Once vocalized, they stop bumping in your head.

What helps is house blessing by an orthodox priest. The thoughts may just dissapear when doing this.

Note the time and place and what you are wearing when these thoughts come and look for a pattern. Did you received a gift, cloth from somebody else and the thoughts come when around that? Think who gave you food and avoid getting food for somebody else until this clears out. Psalm 26 3 times a day will turn away any sorcerer near you and protect you from any sorcery. If saying this psalm 26 said 3 times a day, even if anyone or any danger tries to harm you, will have no power and you will be taken even from under water because you said this psalm 26 3 times that day. Any sorcery, spell done on you will become powerless. Prayers for resolution. negative prayer is damaging and not allowed. Pray for your enemies to turn to God and prayer.

Dear God please turn ALL my enemies to prayer and good deeds. Pray this for 40 times for 40 days.

The above prayer is from an angel and doing it will turn enemies into goood people.

Demons are very much active and it is a spiritual battle indeed! Like any battles or wars you put the strongest offense where it is most threatened! Demons don't really bother their own, only those who come closer to God! It is there the front line where we are in battle!

I was attacked recently in bed. I was half asleep and half awake. I remember I was levitating above me bed and spinning, it felt I was being beat up in the process and I was in a sweat. I was aware of being trapped in between dream state and consciousness and was trying so hard to pull myself out of that state! Eventually i was able to and still had vivid memory of what just happened! It was scary. What brought this on I wondered? Well I began to pray more frequently and longer during my wake hours and I believe this angered some demons! I was not threat before, now I seek a closer union with God, that idea must be offensive to demons. So I now rejoice in my attack as a sign I am worthy of attack! I must be on the right path after all!

I noticed this and felt doubtful about vocalizing such thoughts because that is not ignoring them, and could be construed as a measure of acceptance. If it works for one person who has been instructed by his spiritual father that is one thing, but I would not do this. Perhaps the Fathers here have a view.

Some opinions. You wouldn't need to vocalize them since they are not your own and you want to be as far as possible from them (they do not belong in your mouth -- so to speak). Vocalizing them might bind you to this method and then you think you need to always vocalize them to get rid of them, and demons will then try to get you to repeat this over and over as some sort of therapy, which actually separates your attention from God. The only time you should vocalize these (or about these) thoughts is to your Spiritual Father at Confession; tell him they bother you and what your reaction to them is. I am interested, too, in what the Fathers here have to say on this.

There are two aspects of struggle. One is to perform the work God has given us to do, in prayer, worship and practicing virtue. The other is to think that we can fight and resist evil on our own. The latter will destroy us. So, in some cases, the solution is to actually stop struggling!

Bishop Irenaeos once said to me, 'just as no man will stay in company where he is ignored, so intrusive thoughts will leave you if you ignore them'.
