World's richest woman says poor should have less fun, work harder

WORK HARDER

http://www.trbimg.com/img-503f8f88/t...120830-001/600 Gina Rinehart, the world's richest woman, says people who are jealous of the wealthy should work harder. (Twitter / August 30, 2012)

By David Lazarus August 30, 2012, 9:31 a.m.

Just in case you were beginning to think rich people were deeply misunderstood and that they feel the pain of those who are less fortunate, here's the world's wealthiest woman, Australian mining tycoon Gina Rinehart, with some helpful advice.
"If you're jealous of those with more money, don't just sit there and complain," she said in a magazine piece. "Do something to make more money yourself -- spend less time drinking or smoking and socialising, and more time working."
Yeah, let them eat cake.
Rinehart made her money the old-fashioned way: She inherited it. Her family iron ore prospecting fortune of $30.1 billion makes her Australia's wealthiest person and the richest woman on the planet.
"There is no monopoly on becoming a millionaire," she said by way of encouragement.
"Become one of those people who work hard, invest and build, and at the same time create employment and opportunities for others."
Boom. Almost too easy.
Why are people poor? Rinehart blamed what she described as "socialist," anti-business government policies, and urged Australian officials to lower the minimum wage and cut taxes.
"The millionaires and billionaires who choose to invest in Australia are actually those who most help the poor and our young," she said. "This secret needs to be spread widely."
And now it's out there.

Thank you, rich people. We're not worthy.

Q: What's the difference between Gina Rinehart and a police car?
A: It takes TWO police cars to block an intersection!

Beauty or lack of maybe only skin deep, but her ugliness is soul deep.

edit ; hope you know this is sarcasm, sometimes folks are thick.

On one hand, I agree with her. If you want something out of life, don't be jealous of others, go after what you want and get it.

On the other hand, she assumes everyone wants money. This is where I disagree with her, money doesn't equal success. There's a lot of folks who find richness in life without chasing money. In some ways, having that much money can be a burden. She sounds miserable, I bet most folks are happier than her anyways.

I disagree.

The bitch is towing the line of capitalism in an era of collectivism. She is echoing the words of Buffet and Gates. It was put there to either simmer the pot a little more for the proles or just as a distraction piece. Has something happened to her company or the industry in Aussie? Weren't they going to take a huge chunk of profits as a tax there recently? I thought it got shelved. Would this be back on the table and this is a "first shot" towards the socialists in power?

It would mean something if coming from someone who actually created their fortune.

But they aren't stupid enough to

You can't make this shit up.

Competitive Eating

In 1986, she won the Coney Island Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island, New York, but lost in the subsequent year. In March of 1992, Gina Rinehart set the Guinness World Record for most corn dogs consumed in a 10 minute time frame at 72, and later that year, she won a prawn eating contest in Sydney by consuming 6.2 kilograms of prawns within the allotted 15 minutes. She retired from the competitive eating arena to be with her family after setting her record. It has been long rumored that she plans to regain the title at Coney Island in 2013.

And BTW I do agree with her concerning climate change, however her reasons are in her own interests.

Funny, but it appears to be fake. The entry is under "personal wealth"...doesn't make sense in that subsection. There's an extra space above the heading. Also, no citations...something like that would most definitely have to be cited. Also, it was added today.

made me lol though...

How many prawns is that? 6.2 kilograms? Sounds like a lot. I've never heard of a prawn eating contest, that's something new.

She seems like a grumpy ol' gal with a hearty appetite, I believe she'd do well in that contest. I guess, with an appetite like that, you'd better have some money to back it. It's like a bankster asking for a bonus without a bailout. You can't feed the beast that much without a little help.

From what Ive heard bhp is cutting back on Olympic Dam which isnt going to be developed now, thats uranium .OZ has been doing well because of China but china has to flatten out a bit ,and it seems their banks are as bad as everyones.

Mining slowdown in Australia will cause problems as thats all its been prospering from the last few years and it looks to be the time to cut back in mining at the moment.

OZ dollar sinks in this case but holding g/s can protect here.
