She wants a pad and we've never owned an Apple product. I've fiddled with iMac and Macbook Pro but never owned one.

As for pad I would've went Android but meh...

I just got one myself, though an iPad 2 not 3. They're great, really good in fact. I used to have an iPhone 3GS but now have an Android phone. Getting this iPad reminded me how good iOS is, everything is fast and smooth and the apps have become much better (though there's still a lot of crap out there).

I guarantee that she'll love it but using one iPad between 2 people (I share mine with my gf) is a nightmare as you can only have one person logged in for buying apps and home sharing etc.

I need the iPad because it is an iPad. What are all those other things that look like iPads? Are they iPads? I need the iPad4 with the bigger geebees. Transf... Xoo...Galax.. what? I don't understand what you are saying about those other iPads that don't look like the iPad. Will you come to my home every weekend to setup my wifi? I need the iPad now. Hello! Hello! Should I buy the $69 hard-shell case? Give me the iPad now. I need the $89 iKeyboard and the $849 iDesk because I have to look at Pinterest a lot and then tell my hundreds of Facebook friends what they should be looking at on Pinterest. My friend says her iPad talks to her. Will you make my iPad talk to me and tell it to tell me that I am beautiful? I also need the iTripod because I like to stand in my backyard and take award-winning photographs of my neighbour's trees. Will the 720x digital zoom on the iPad make my pictures good enough to submit to National Geographic? Do you have an open-box iPad4 for cheaper? Can I exchange the open-box iPad4 for a shiny, new iPad and still pay the open-box price? Bring me the iPad now. Can I pay for my iPad using an app that you can install on my iPad? Is it a free app? I need the app to be HD and have 5.1 DTS.

I prefer 7" tablets, much more comfortable to use because of the size and weight, more portable and do pretty much the same and cost less than half the price in some cases.

Also I have no interest in using iOS or iTunes.

Why does she want an iPad?
Most likely because it is the best tablet on the market with the most software support.

Best Tablet in your opinion, that doesn't make it so.

Is it even true that the iPad has more software support? or is this just another old stat pulled from the air which doesn't apply anymore.

Transformer Infinity and Nexus 7 are the best tablets available, both for different reasons.

K, you find me a tablet with the same dev support and screen quality then let me know.

Yes, it is true a vast majority of software is released for iOS and then ported to Android later, particularly for tablets since up until recently there were so few Android tablets worth owning. Developers know the money is in iOS and Android is a nice to have to try to stretch profits.

Display on the Transformer Infinity is just as good, 1920*1200 is more than enough for a 10" screen, plus it's brighter and the screen ratio is better suited for video and games.

It is brighter but with significantly more narrow color gamut.

So? the contrast is higher on the Transformer Infinity's display as is the brightness, they both have advantages.

K, that's fine now let's move onto my other point about software.

I was about to buy a Transformer Infinity (and still might) until I realized that for the same price, I can get a friggen iPad. The only advantage I can tell that the Transformer has over the iPad right now is more memory (for the price).

Without knowing the current exact number of apps available for both I don't see how we can move onto software.

Besides there are so many available for both, it's reached the point where it doesn't really matter anymore.

Shall we more onto something else like connectivity? Controller support? mice? keyboard? external storage? media format compatibility? Emulators? choice of programs to use like browsers, media players, keyboards? or the general lack of any customization on iOS

But you get a keyboard dock, it's usable outside and loads more connectivity options and your not restricted by iOS.

I wouldn't by either to be honest, both are total rip off compared to the Nexus 7.

Of course it matters because it is software that you run on these things.

The fact is that there are significantly more tablet optimized apps for iOS.

Sure, for the tech savvy those are great things but for the mass market, they don't buy a tablet to play SNES games on it. There are countless media players, numerous browsers, and tons of accessories for iOS. You can use any BT keyboard with the iPad so I am unsure what your point is there.

I'm not sure the designed for tablets issue matters anymore, allot of phones and tablets share the same resolution on android so most applications look just fine without having to designed especially for tablets.

Last time I used iOS you couldn't change the default browser, you could use other browsers but when I opened links it would always start the default browser. It was annoying.

Controllers come in handy for games in general, there are apps available on Google Play that enable controller support for many games that don't support controllers by default. It's awesome.

Also using a mouse and keyboard is useful, if I connect to my TV or Monitor using MHL/HDMI and also connect it to my USB hub I can use mice, keyboard and storage devices that are connected at the same time much like a computer.

That's actually not very ideal since UI elements should be scaled accordingly and not based solely on a resolution, that is broken.

Sure controllers are great but don't matter at all for a vast majority of users. You will also notice that a fair amount of games are released on iOS first and then later ported to Android.

Having owned a phone and tablet that support a mouse and keyboard for numerous years now, I have yet to understand the use for a mouse on them. Can you explain the practical purpose?
