Ok, I come home from work yesterday at 7pm, nothing. I leave my house to go to work 8:30 am and as I'm pulling out of my driveway I see a tree in my front yard. My reaction is and I assume that it was the work of [insert family member]. I just called around and it looks like it was the City of Carlsbad's handy work.[cursing] They planted a tree then taped instructions on how to care for the tree on my front door! My lawn already has 2 adult trees on it, I don't need another one (esp one so close to the sidewalk that'll ruin it in 5-6 years).
Is there anything I can do legally? I'm assuming I can't cut the tree down since it's city property. Can I just not water it?

if you're wondering why I don't want a tree is because:
a) leaves get everywhere
b) I have 2 trees already in the front
c) Way too close to the sidewalk
d) fugly
Lol That sounds like Carlsbad. Ohh well, Interesting to see a fellow FM from my town on here. Sorta creepy. O.o

Build a metal cage around it, maybe electrify it or something- or build high walls around it blocking the light. Let nature kill it!

A copper nail through the base of the tree will take care of it. Or maybe that's just an urban legend around here.

Get the tree, stick it right in front of the council door and leave instructions on how to look after it.

"1. Drop pants.
2. Grasp tree firmly in dominant hand.
3. Insert tree."

[rofl]
Seriously though, Dibrom, what did/have you done?

Turns out this isn't the first time the city has done this. The neighbor's tree, which has been tearing up my driveway for the last decade, was planted by the city. Seeing as how the city never cleans/trims it, I doubt they'll take any responsibility for this one. BUT one the plus side, the city said if the tree tears up the sidewalk, they'll take care of it. SO I'm going to try and get them to repair my driveway . I was looking into it earlier this year and it would have cost me ~$4000.

If the city repairs my driveway I'm keeping the tree. If not, I'll just cut it down. I don't think they're efficient enough to notice.

What's even more amusing is that over here in the states there are laws, apply in all states I believe, that the sidewalk is your responsibility. So if the sidewalk in front of your home is icy regardless that its city property they will say its YOUR responbility and if someone slips and falls because you didn't shovel it they can sue you. Its really F'd up. Or your driveway too. Trespass on someone's property, injure yourself, and then sue. That's the way it is here as well, if it's not done within 48hours then the city will do it and you will be charged $35.

O.o

Lets see, you cant be in La Costa cause they dont have room for trees with those new homes being crap for lawns... Perhaps near the village? Harding street and so forth... They have room for trees. Hmmmm... A hunt!
