Default Scandals marring the first week of the new swedish government
I don't get why politicians think they'll get away with that sort of thing. Time to put antipsychotics in the tap water at the Diet?

It doesn´t matter if you watch TV or not, as long as you own a TV, video or TV-card in your computer you have to pay licence fee. That´s the law

Btw Always is spelt with one "l"

It's cheaper in Sweden. One of the articles linked above mentions:

The 1,500 kronor (£109; US$200) per year TV licence fee

That's not little, but given politican's income it must be affordable. Stupid way to lose position.

I just looked up some figures. Apparently, a Swede has to give up about 5,8% of his monthly salary to pay the yearly licence fees, while average Croat has to give up 15,8% of his average monthly salary to pay the yearly licence fees. It would be interesting to know for other countries too.

In Sweden you pay 164 kr/month. That would be 1% of your monthly salary if you earn 16000 kr/month. I don´t know where VetLegion gets his numbers...

I think this is more telling of the state of Swedish media and the climate of public debate than of Swedish politicians.

Somebody apparently have their minds firmly set on trying to compromise in every possible way this travesty that is a non-Social Democratic government. "Yeah, when those stupid voters don't know what's good for them, we'll show them, one way or another!" Yeah, because the media hasn't harassed socdem politicians?

This new government is clearly an aberration and must be confronted by any means necessary. It's just not natural for Sweden to have Social Democrats on the sidelines, seems to be the unspoken mantra of your leading media outlets. I can only conclude you're crazy, not following our media, or both.

You'll note that you're computing a year's fees as a percentage of a month's wage, whereas Zoid is computing a month's fees as a percentage of a month's wage. That you reach wildly different results should be no surprise.

That´ll give you the kind of screwed up numbers you got...

It doesn´t matter what government is currently in power. Do I have to remind you of the numerous socdem ministers that have been forced to resign due to finacial irregualrities and other stuff?

Mona sahlin was force to resign because she´d used her government credit card for buying various small stuff like a Toblerone bar. She lost the chairman seat of the SAP and the PM seat because of this. http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobleroneaff%C3%A4ren

And Laila Freivalds was forced to resign twice! The first time because of a apartment deal and the second because of the tsunami disaster.

etc, etc...

Yeah, I see now that the law is talking about the yearly income, so it's ok and in compliance with what I was saying. Zoid stop creating confusion in the thread

Now now Winston, everyone knows that leftie politicians don't do anything naughty. Look at our Labour Party (bit of a stretch calling them left). Would they do anything dodgy like this? Hell no...
