Alternatively, I could kidnap George R.R. Martin and make him finish his next book http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/idea.gif

Does it support widescreen resolution? Stretchy screens are a major turnoff.

It's not a necessity, but it is nice when a game doesn't **** up the aspect ratio.

Okay. I am taking your recommendation http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif

System Shock 2 is pretty old, but IMO still an ok FPS game to play. Hearts of Iron II: Doomsday standalone is a good complex strategy game, Rise of Nations a good simple strategy game. Do you have any other favorite genres than strategy?

I read in PC Gamer (I think) that someone is making a System Shock 2 graphics mod that spruces up the models and textures, making an older game look a little more modern.

The story and gameplay are gripping enough that the older graphics shouldn't hinder enjoyment, but it might be something to look into if the game looks a bit too 1999 for your tastes.

From Wikipedia:

A free fan-made add-on pack, called "Rebirth,"[8] is available on the Internet, which increases some of the polygon counts and provides new textures to make the most of the new models. The polygon counts had been kept relatively low in the original release to ensure high performance speed. However, the developers have stated that they underestimated their 'budget' for performance and they could have made the polygon counts higher.

Rebirth, however, has received criticism from some, who believe that it changes the 'feel' of the original enemies. A second version of Rebirth, known as the "Complemented version"[9], makes further alterations to the enemy models in order to give a closer approximation of their original appearance. It also adds several models by the original Rebirth author that were unavailable in the first release.

The SHock Texture Upgrade Project (SHTUP)[10], is a modification that aims to increase the resolution of the object textures used in the game to a more recent standard, whilst maintaining the same graphic-style. Most base textures in the game were only of 64x64 or 128x128 pixel resolution, while the SHTUP's are mostly 256x256. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Shock_2

My roomate's currently playing through Half-life 2 (and is about to go to bed) so Lego Star Wars is out (I prefer to play that game multiplayer). I just started a run through of Star Fox 64, which is great for a quick fix but only takes something like fifteen to thirty minutes to beat. I'm on a civ break (I alternate between not playing for a month and then getting deep into a couple games for a week or two). FPS's have gotten boring, especially on PC. I'm really itching for a good space fighting game, so I'd play Freelancer, but I've beaten that about eight times. Pleasant and unpleasant surprises. W40K and the expansion were only $30 each, which was nice. OTOH, they only had a single shelf devoted to Gamecube games and the only one I could pick up was Battalion Wars (Fire Emblem had been added to my list, but they were out). Instead I picked up The Longest Journey (the newer one).
