Seems the Swedes all applied for German passports this week...

How many more boring games with goals in the 90th minute do we have to watch http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ons/icon13.gif

It's only the wrong foot if you don't score.

trubreTab 06-16-2006 12:07 AM

So does that count as his yellow against Paraguay being justified then? http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif

England were 3 mins away from winning their group, but now Sweden can win it. That might actually help England if Equador then got a draw or better against Germany, pitching Eq vs Eng in the 2nd round. England would certainly lose to Germany if they met in the next round. But since they play the day after the Germany - Ecuador game then they can tactically throw the match if they decide they'd rather play Ecuador or Germany. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gifhttp://www.discussworldissues.com/im...ons/icon14.gif
Or just be unimpressive again.

I was sure we were going out, Ljungberg scoring with a header. Is this bizarro world?

I was gonna say - do we have Morientes on the bench?

So he means actual scousers - Owen & Rooney, as well Crouch who plays for Liverpool FC.

Nadin Maison 06-16-2006 12:42 AM

Hey chaps, the "Liverpool" comment was just a joke (given that we had to score both tonight).

I'm genuinely concerned with a lack of out and out strikers in the squad, as soon as Owen goes off we look very thin on the ground. don't you think?

libertiespana 06-16-2006 12:46 AM

But Owen's from near Chester - I know that most of North Wales qualifies as "Outer Merseyside", but he isn't a Scouser (unlike me http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif).

PetrZimin 06-16-2006 12:58 AM

Talking about Henry then? Who else?

GutleNus 06-16-2006 01:06 AM

But if Walcott never plays, then why not just invite him to every training session, and then sit him in the stands for the matches? Or give him a job as twelfth man, to give the players water bottles as required. Why actually pick him in the squad unless he's going to be used?

I'm well aware that England have only played two games so far, but then Walcott hasn't even been sent to warm up yet. But South Korea vont pwner la France et la Suisse! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/biggrin.gifhttp://www.discussworldissues.com/im...ons/icon14.gif

What's the Korea thing about, anyway? Do you really rate them, or did you just like their impression of a team that bought the officials in the last WC?

http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2006260665,00.html Awesome. http://www.discussworldissues.com/im...ons/icon14.gif

Now I can watch the TV, mute the Spanish commentary, and put on the English audio. http://www.discussworldissues.com/im...ons/icon14.gif

Affiltavajefe 06-16-2006 10:16 AM

The English team was awful. It's offensive side is uninspired and it's difficult for them to beat even some of the weakest sides in the WC. It's defense hasn't really been tested yet. If they choose to match with Ecuador, we'll all have a great laugh.

To me, the Swedes, although they play pretty much the same way, are more convincing. My bet is on them next match, if they don't start Ibrahimovic (he's awful).

If you want to see some real ball, lookout for the next Cote d' Ivoire match.

Nekas48 06-16-2006 02:18 PM

England qualify with a game to spare, conceding no goals despite poor performances and the media go crazy...

imagine what they'd do if we hadn't won the games.

broksaksaak 06-16-2006 02:26 PM

I'm not so quick to classify it as a 'poor performance' myself. Sure the finishing was off but there was a lot of good play. None of the 'talking heads' seem to have the experience to realize how difficult it has been at the WC to score against a defensive team that's playing 10 men back which is how both Paraguay and T&T played.

The objective of the group round has always been not to loose and to win one game against the weaker teams by a big margin. Lest we forget, by virtue of their tie with Sweden, T&T still have a chance to go through.

I think the England-Sweden game will be a very good show for both teams with England finally thrashing them.

Tauntenue 06-16-2006 03:12 PM

All that said, it was England's finishing which let them down. Lumpard, Crutch, and nOwin all missed sitters. If they'd have gone in, England might have had five, as I think Siron predicted. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif
