To quote the ancient Greeks, I think that 'everything in moderation'...
Balance is the hardest thing to accomplish in one's spiritual life in today's world, but we must constantly struggle for it, so as not to be slaves to pleasures and to 'the world'...but I do not think it is a sin, (not that I am anyone--perhaps I should say: 'I hope' that it is not) to partake of them to a certain degree. Even the strictest Orthodox monasteries have heat, showers, and indoor plumbing and other modern conveniences. In Christ, Alice |

After reading back though the variety of comments in this thread about "modernity" I think I have decided that this is absolutely the weirdest thread I have ever read on monachos. :0)
But, I'm game. I like the electric can opener because it opens cans that they didn't use to have in pre-modern times. Bonus Pack: Stupid Quiz Stupid Quiz - Are You Stupid? |

Is it sinful to be weird Fr David?
Because I have a great deal of additional repenting to do if that's so. I recall the very moment of my weirdness-revelation. I was 13 and I was putting on my pants. I realized I put on both legs at the same time (I always had). The words running through my head? "He's like everyone else, he puts his pants on one leg at a time." It's been downhill ever since. |
