I moved this to off-topic since your question is regarding page ranking, and not really targeted towards YGO gen.

The best way to increase page ranking is to A) Update your metadata to accurately reflect your site's content. B) Install a variety of Google tools C) Maintain coding standards to allow search engines to easily find you. D) Link sharing/advertising. Find sites and resources that allow you to purchase adspace or share links. You can advertise here ONLY in your signature or in the Website Promotions forums.* A google search of 'page ranking tips' might help. I wasn't an admin when this site started climbing the ladder so I can only really guess at the changes that were made. I only know the above from personal experience.

Other ways could be to have high levels of traffic flowing to your site, that's best done with quality content, or a 'hook' of some sort that draws people to your site. Is it going to be a blog? You should also keep your site easy to navigate.

For information on website metadata, coding standards etc, go here : w3schools.com for google tools, go to google.com/webmaster

Best of luck!

*Assuming that forum has actually been reenabled.

I run an online business of my own so I've done alot of research depending on your budget there are alot of options but whatever type of site you are running more hits takes the same kind of mechanics:

First of all make sure you've submitted your site to google, and other major and minior search engines (I submitted mine to bing, yahoo, and ask the first day), it can take them close to a month for your site to come up in a search (to know if they've found you at all just search your website url) not everyone uses google (infact I've been boycotting google for poltical reasons the last year) the reason to want rank is that you want traffic so everything I am saying is coming from someone who wanted traffic not rank, every search engine that you can submit it to for free is a plus.

On google decsription is very important, keyword but other sites do consider it important.

Remember that you won't get first on google overnight, but you might get there inside a year if you work at it. And if you are serious about your website then be willing to stick it out for at least 2 or 3 years of running that site with not very many hits, it takes nothing short of a mircle to break the 2 year curse when starting a new webpage.

Content is king, posting orginal content daily is recommended, but what's really needed is to post original content on a regular basis (if I'll admit if I started to post daily I'd probably see a faster rise in my page rank)

Next up search engines love links, so do things like make sure your pages are linked together really well (the rule of thumb I've heard is you can have up to about 100 links to other pages on yoursite placed in a navigation area and in article text and it will help you. And that profile in the forum add your link to your site in the signiture (why not kill 2 birds with one stone). Remember what you want are free on way links pointing toward your website, every link pointing from your website to another site is if likely to turn into a strike against you at some point (so link trading is a bad idea). Make comments on other peoples blogs. And as a rule never spam anybody it won't help your page rank in the long run. And there is a whole concept called link bait I looked into when I got started, short term you need traffic first, long term link bait will speed up the process. Link building boosts your google rank and functions as a form of free advertising at the same time.

Now I run a web based business so some of what I am about to say may not be fully aplicable, but if you've got a facebook and twitter acount already make a mention of your site (linking from the socail network to your website), even on my personal facebook page I make the ocasional reference to my website (and just happen to turn it into a link) and depending on what you think will help you start a facebook page just for your site, and tweet about your site (and make sure you mention that site by url every time you reference it because if you do you'll get another link in a place people are likely to see it click on it and decide yoursite is interesting), and depending on what you need a free RSS service isn't a bad idea either (it's mostly for letting people know that you have posted something new, which can lead to repeat traffic (turns out for me it was also cheap advertising for my online store)). I never really got what is so great about social networking sites, but people retweeting posts that have your links in them is really cheap advertising, and apperently getting facebook likes is good for business.

These are all no budget options that I've pursued with some sucessfully.

If you are thinking if you want to buy services that will get you closer faster please keep in mind a couple of things first of all a pay per click campaign can get very expensive for the person buying the advertising space, and very profitable for the person selling it and those those links only help your rank while you are paying for them. Second thing to keep in mind a link building service can be a great investment but I'd advise caution, can help really build up that page rank but the wrong one can cause google to refuse to show your webpage at all. Also read the fine print some charge monthly to rent links that you only have as long as you are paying for them, other's charge a one time fee for a fixed number of links, and still other services that I've looked at will charge monthly not to rent links but to keep building them, search engines want people to do the link building themselves so you need a service that will look that way.

An important side note:

There is also something you should keep in mind before ever constructing your website, I've read about a large number of bloggers who started blogging just for fun certain they would never care if their blog could earn them money and then woke up one day and decided to try and suplement their incomes by doing things like selling ad space. While this might not seem important now there is a reason it is this, those same people decided they were getting however many hits and they could use the extra money so but what they found out is that they started their blog using space on somebody elses website, that somebody else took a cut of the add revenue (sometime a 100% cut), or had policies that prohibited ad space from being sold at all and by using the space on those sites those blogger had basicly given all the rights to make money off their content to the owner of the site. What this meant was that they either had to continue their blogging while not being able to make money (or as much money) for what they were doing, or they could choose to abanadon their existing work and which meant leaving it on the website of the person who owned the site to use as they see fit and start from scratch on their own website not with their rights to their own work possibly being comprimised.

So as you are going through the process of starting your website you should be considering questions like "do I ever want to be able to sell ad space or can I live with never seeing a penny off it?" and "do I want to sell products or services through this website in the future?" and be 100% sure about your answers before you do anything.

I could go on about the business side of this sort of thing all day (after all it is a big part of how I make my living), but mostly what I was getting at had to do with preserving your ablitiy to decide you want to turn your fun site that is just a fun hobby into a fun thing you do that happens to make you some cash on top of doing it. Sorry if it seems off topic but people often think these questions are unimportant until the damage is already done (and if I'd made that mistake I would have wished someone could have told me in advance).
