Default College
I'm a first year in college, and i'm gonna try to reach out to anyone who has college experience. What's the best way not to procrastinate/stay up in class? =.=;

Also, how do you kill off ALL your spare time?!?!?!?! D:

Best Way not to procrastinate. Have a planner and plan out your days. Actually stick to your plans that you make. For example if you say you will study from 3-7 actually study. If you don't want to fall asleep during class make sure you get an adequate amount of sleep the night before. Get involved on campus. Join a sorority (if that is your kind of thing) I recently rushed Phi Mu Alpha myself. I can't really tell you how to kill your spare time. I don't have much. I'm a music major so I spend most of my free time practicing which usually means I practice about 2-3 hours a day. Hope that helps.

Best way not to procrastinate? Sorry, you're outside the realm of my expertise.

Now, if you want to procrastinate I can help you: Just rationalize excessively about the amount of time remaining and what you "want" to do (and not on what you need to do). You'll find that there's always a better time to do something than now, leaving you with plenty of time to relax.

Do your homework.
Take Notes. (no really..take notes.)
and just pay attention in class, you'd be surprised how easy it is when you do all this..

Im graduating this semester and the best college advice i can give is make sure you stick to your degree plan, plan everything out, what your gonna take, when you are going to take it. etc. that way in the end your not cramming in as many classes as you can because you realized that one of your transfer classes didn't in fact count.. this has happened to many students.

ive gone through college with no mistakes until now. i followed my degree plan, i made mostly all A's. then i read the fine print of the student handbook with required every student to have at least 42 credit hours of Jr./Sr. level courses...my degree plan had 39 hours.. so i lacked one class. all in all HAVE A PLAN.

to kill time you could always do the sorority/school functions stuff..(if your into all that..) as for me i just made good friends with my roommates and always hang out with the International Foreigne Exchange Students. and well yeah i play alot of ygo on DN.

hope this helps

I will assume you want tips on how to not procrastinate in class, as opposed to in general.

Best way I found was to take notes constantly. When you're actively doing something, you're less likely to get distracted/lose interest/whatnot. This method works extremely well if your lecturers provide you with half filled-in notes and force you to pay attention in class in order to fill in the rest.

In first year, most people take "core subjects" which are fundamental to multiple degrees. As such, stuff sometimes becomes boring because it's not the specialised stuff you really are interested in. During later years, you split off into your own specialised areas, which hopefully is more interesting to you. For example, I major in Physics and I found first-year physics to be boring, but the biophysics course I took this year is really interesting to me.

Having friends who are studious also helps. It makes getting into that mentality a lot easier.

If worst comes to worst, you can always change degrees, whether to a similar area or something completely different.

Get a good job. Good advice there.

Also, try building a computer. it takes time and will give you something to do.

I am actually in the process of building a computer but i need money xD

And here's the situation...

(Presentation due tomorrow and the current time is 10:30 PM). Lets do this presentation!

(Friend yells from across the hall) Hey wanna play LoL?

Then I put it off until 2 in the morning xD.

It's either my friend or of me almost making it to my room until someone manages to make me hang out with them...

I do all my work but it's really hard to do it on time >.>

Make a planner and stick to it. If you have to do something, and dont want to get bothered, go to Starbucks.

Read some posts.

Make friends.

If you have work, lock yourself in your room with headphones + music. Work.

Other than that? Gain some self-control lol.

You should add us on LOL. XP

Really, it's just about self-control, and developing it requires you to know about yourself. For example, I know that taking that first step to doing studying is very difficult for me, but I know that, once I get a rhythm going, I can keep studying for many hours while funneling out all the distractions. Then, it's just a matter of rectify the problem. For me, if I set myself a schedule, I find it very hard to put it off if I don't actually follow it, so that's what I do.

The sad part is I haven't had to study while in college yet. It's all a rehash of what I learned in grade 10. Programming ftw.
