Default Thread in which the world laughs at America
The market disagrees with your assessment that this is a waltz toward default. CDS spreads on US Treasuries are below those on German Bunds or UK Gilts.

How good is the market at predicting political risk? I suppose if that were something that people knew the market would just adjust, but still, it seems like not really a thing markets would be great at predicting.
How good is the market at predicting anything, really?

Mortgage rate? Up or down?
My sources say down.

Isn't there a decent chance that if the US defaulted, so would the CDS issuer?

Confederate States of America.
Going to see a civil war re-enactment this weekend, 150th anniversary of bull run

It's going to be sweltering though....

I suppose you've never celebrated your birthday on the weekend when it actually took place during the work week.

So you'll stand around in the sweltering heat while men in costumes pretend to shoot each other? Really?

I hope he's not celebrating Bull Run either.
If he were rooting for the Rebs, he'd have called it Manassas.

I hope HC enjoys watching fat, sweaty middle aged men with unkempt beards wobbling around a field.

What the **** is wrong with you all?

The stupidity of this waltz towards defaulting is enthralling, amusing, and tantalizing.

Question: Will my mortgage rate be lower if the US defaults? I need some perspective here.
You're a bit late to the party, Asher. I've been laughing at the US since the Reagan era...

I actually did not know that, I use them interchangeably.
