B&W large bore diesel engine from 1932, which for more than 30 years was the largest diesel engine in the world. Love old stuff like this. [thumbup]

Thing needs a nice exhaust system! [thumbup]
I wonder how many homes an engine like that could power.

22500 HP kept away from people by.. a handrail. falling into that would sting a bit.

Love old stuff like this. you might just find this interesting...

catastopically
I had to google that to find out if it was actually a word, at least add an f in there if not a ph

Last "big" diesel I had some fun with was a Massey Ferguson 698T with a turbo kit, still only hit around 100hp

How does this thing start up? I don't see how it just starts at 0 rpm and then goes 1...2...3 rpm... What I mean is there's no difference between startup and running

At around 2:45 you can see a large electric motor, that appears to be geared to the flywheel - a starter motor as found in a car.
Big diesels like that will normally have a decompression mechanism to reduce the load on the starter and once it's turning the decompression is released and it runs normally, coming up to idle speed, which could be only a few rpm up to perhaps 120ish at full speed.
I'd like to have heard it under full load, there's something special about big diesels and steam engines, isn't there

Some large steam engines used for pumping, lots of gleaming brass and copper - they were artisans as much as engineers in those days!.

16.8MW, or about 3 HD6990s.
