Default First new car in 10 years!
Just bought a new car.

2006 Pontiac G6 GTP. 10,784 miles. $13.5 out the door with a dealer warranty on top of the certified warranty. Also in addition to the power train warranty.
3.9L 240hp M6

0-60: ~6 seconds
1/4 mile: ~14.5 @ 95mph

I need a new daily driver so I could stop driving the TransAm GTA. After the KIA tried to kill me by blowing the rear brake cylinder when I REALLY needed to stop.

I'll take better pics tomorrow.

Get used to the check engine light. The stupid gas crap problem plagues all GM cars. I don't even bother getting my code cleared anymore.

The check engine light is only on because the key is in the ignition and in the run position but the car isn't running.

There were other cars in my price range but they had about 50 to 60k miles on average.

I love those engines, big OHV fan, and seems like a great deal on that car with the very low mileage.

Though that coupe!?
1.) I think those coupes look horrible
2.) Chicks car

I know those are a matter of personal preference.

Though that kind of money could have bought you all kinds of crazy goodies.
I'd say, much had rather gotten an Impala SS (newest Gen) with that money!
Or cause you like messing with cars, get something like say a 90's Supra in tip top shape and just do like a 1JZ swap and call it good.

Warranty, mileage and price wise a great deal. Just that COUPE!?

Loan reqs. 05 and newer. 70k or less. I was rated at up to $46,000 but didn't want to pay that king of payment.

My own req was that the Montfort payment had to be under $300 per month.

All the other cars in my price range were either super base models or they were high mileage.

This car was a steal. Originally 12.9k sticker. I got it out the door for 13.5k w/dealer warranty, tax title and license.

My INS is only $342/6mo. Full coverage. 300k/$300k. And a $250 deductible. Comes out to a little under 60 per month.

This still leaves plenty of money for savings.

That car looks like it has potential...

Some nice rims, lowering kit, bodykit and it could look great!

And I'm sure you can easily get more power out of that engine?

Body kit? PUKE. Never.

Rims are already 18", i'm happy with the cars looks as is.

I will NEVER seriously mod this car. Its a daily driver. Its also one of the reasons I didn't go for a higher mileage WRX (there were a few). The furthest I'd go with this car would be intake and exhaust mods. CAI, headers, and a cat-back are as far as I'd go. I"ll never touch the insides of the engine. Its fast enough as is for a daily driver.

For a DD, my priorities would be mileage (economy), reliability and comfort.
The F-body will be your weekend/play car!

Nice! I like it.

I do like the look of the coupe. To me, it looks like they tried to kind of match the Nissan 350 look in some ways, but still having it look "American" overall.

I've been putting off the 6 speed swap because my 99 Kia Sephia died. Or rather it tried to kill me when had to slam on the brakes hard when a Ford 350 van cut into MY turn lane. Thankfully I was only going 5mph or so preparing to turn into a store parking lot. I was able to yank the eBrake and stop the car.

The Kia's rear wheel cylinder on the driver side busted causing my brake system to lose ALL pressure. Pedal went straight to the floor. Scared the hell out of me. It prompted me to say screw this, and start looking for a new car.

I found plenty of cars in my price range, but they were all 45k to 75k miles. There were also several Ford Fiesta's in the 2010 model year that were in my range too, but they were base fiesta's and I'm tired of driving sub compact cars. I wanted a slightly larger car. Had to be super quiet for cruising and low miles was important as I was going to be driving it for the next 10 years.

The G6 GTP was a super deal for its mileage. 10,784 miles is insane on a 4 year old car in this area. So I hemmed, hawwed and looked at other cars, but I kept coming back to it. I finally decided to give it another try yesterday and took it out for an extended test drive. I initially hated the 6spd, its not the greatest feeling 6spd out there. But on the extended test drive I got used to it and had no problems the 2nd time around.

Its nice to finally have a car that I can take a date out in and not feel embarrased about the 20 things that are wrong with it. The GTA is great and all, but its a drivers car, and is built for speed and handling. The ride is rough, I can feel a pencil if I run over it. Could even tell you which tire too. The GTA is also low slung, the roof line is just 44" tall. And when I sit in it I still have a few inches between my head and the roof. Because its so low its hard to see around other cars when trying to make a turn from an intersection if they pull up too much. SUV's completely stop all visibility. But I do love the car.

Having a '00 Impala, I can say I have no idea what you're talking about.

Anyway, I've always thought the G6 looked like a good daily driver, and the GTP models are pretty quick to boot. Shame about Pontiac, I thought the G8 was a sweet-looking ride.

EDIT: Ugh, just saw you have a dealer that puts their name on the trunk of the car. Why do they do that, it looks so ridiculous!

They almost complete redesigned the impala for 06+ model year. Engine, interior electronics etc. They introduced the 3.5L 3.9L which they used across more than just the Impala. Prior to that (iirc) it was a 3.4 & 3.8. It seems that 2006+ GM vehicles are plagued with this stupid gas cap problem. The computer will tell you to tighten your gas cap and if you do before you turn the engine off it might not throw a code but if you don't and you turn your car off your check engine light will stay on until you get the code cleared. It can either be the cap itself or the evap container which is expensive to have replaced.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&s...=&oq=&gs_rfai=

Regardless, I hope you enjoy your ride.

I have a heat gun, its coming off as soon as I can. I don't want the paint color to change under the sticker. I hate it when dealers do it too. I'm sure they'd do it to a brand new Corvette ZR1 if they could. I didn't ask them to take it off, but its coming off. Could probably use a hair drier for a lower heat setting. My heat gun only has 600* and 1000* settings. So I'd have to be super careful. Where as a regular hair drier only reaches about 200* or so on average.

I never thought about using a hair drier. Good idea!
They took off my flex fuel badge and put their damn logo on the back of my car and now you can see through the sticker where they took off the badge [cursing]

I got Opel Vectra OPC as my daily driver and thought about keeping it stock, but within a month I got lowering springs and a chip for it

(255HP/350nm -> 290HP/500Nm with the chip)

Feels like a totally different car after chiptuning [thumbup]

It has GM High Feature V6. 2.8 litre variant with turbo (LP9 Turbo)...
I guess yours has the GM High Value V6 (LZ9)?

OPC Vectra has a great bodykit as stock so no need to get one for this car, but I think the G6 would look great with a OEM look bodykit if you can get one...

well you succeeded in making your other car look like a bag of shite,so you may as well make a start on this one.

I never do body kits. Unnessesary weight for little to no gain in performance. If it doesn't seriously improve aerodynamics either by reducing drag, or increasing downforce with a small drag penalty I wouldn't do it.

It is the LZ9, but I will never do any mods that would require flashing the PCM. Its made to be a daily driver, I have another car that I can mod with impunity and already have.

I do have another car that I mod aswell (Nissan 200SX S14). But I just can't keep anything stock

But yes it takes way too much money to tune and mod 1 car let alone 2 cars...
