Graphics tablets

Does anyone use one? I'm considering getting one, but most famous ones are incredibly expensive IMO.

My main concerns currently are:
  • Whether a five-inch drawing space is big enough. The price jump for seven-inch ones is huge IMO, but five-inch on a ruler looks like I've got no space at all. :\
  • What laptop specs are needed for the tablet to run relatively smoothly. This'll ultimately affect what laptop I buy.
  • What brands outside of Wacom and Genius are trustworthy and relatively easy to find. Wacom's outta the question for me; Don't need something that good. Genius seven-inches' look usable, but I'm open to alternatives.

I'm using a Wacom Intuous 3 9x12. I tried Cintiq at my school and it was amazing, I wish I have one.

For some reason, it's kinda lagging(?) on my computer (desktop) now, but not on my laptop, which is certainly worse specs wise. Weird. :S

Wacom Bamboo is cheap, but still good for casual users.
