From Dominican Today
http://www.dominicantoday.com/dr/eco...-2025#comments I suppose it's possible but a lot of things have to go right. The direction Danilo takes the country in the next 4 years are tantamount if this is to come about. |

I think it is possible. The DR is not a poor country and if wealth was dristributed evenly, it would not look like a poor country. The problem is that the top 10 percent of the population holds 40 percent of the wealth!! The wealth would need to be distributed better to be a developed nation. |

You might as well be talking about rain going up to the clouds. That is also impossible, just like an even distribution of wealth. That does not happen anywhere and is least likely to happen in a country like the DR. It actually is not even a poor country but it is just the the rich people hold onto all of the wealth. Imagine the US with Romney for president and the top 10 percent with all the money while everyone starves. They decide whether or not they will share the money. That is what is happening in the DR. I do not think they will ever distribute wealth in order to help the country. I just know that if they chose to, it would be a wealthy country right now. We would not need to wait until 2025. |

That is the problem. The sad thing is that you are right. It probably will not happen but the sad thing is it is possible. 1 in 10 Dominicans is a millionaire! 43 percent live in poverty and 25 percent live in extreme poverty. |

I can only think that those World Bank officials based their statement on reliable GDP figures and stats provided by the DOM government http://www.listindiario.com/economia...cion-ISO-27001 As for the OP, the World Bank is quite optimistic. The development plan currently being implemented is aiming towards having the country fully developed by 2030. |

Sorry but I don't see how any banking standards have anything to do with the reliable collection of information. BTW, I used to work for the World Bank. Lots of crap going on there too.
The Central Bank got ISO 27001 certification, the first for any Latin American Central Bank; and it has been following the ISO 31000, Basilea II, and BS 25999 globally recognized statistical procedures. |

"distributing wealth" is not the answer! Take from some and give to others? Please....
They need jobs - all over the island, not just sti and the capital. Someone needs to grow some and start a real strong campaign to have the majority of kids stay in school. Industry moving to the island and HS diplomas go together. You would have go to after both at the same time - and go at it hard. Bring in an Apple, bring in a car company, give incentives, get jobs for these people. This would help create a larger and solid middle class. Nobody's doing that right now, no incentive for kids to stay in school, and no incentive for any industry to come here cause not enough educated middle class That's my plan. Vote for me. |

ISO certification means very little, IMHO.
It means the participating entity signed up for them, paid, complied with documentation they required, and were eventually issued a certificate. I never saw an actual auditor in 20+ years with companies being ISO certified, where auditors actually showed up. Great business model they have, it' very successful. But in my experience, it was just another plaque to hang on the wall. It was expensive, cumbersome, and we did all the work for them to issue a certificate....just a certificate. Quality was not the issue, it was just compliance....and in writing. Great marketing tool, but not a quality of service tool. Whomever thought up the concept is brilliant, and laughing all the way to the bank. this msg. is nit ISO 2012 certified! |

That is the problem. The sad thing is that you are right. It probably will not happen but the sad thing is it is possible. 1 in 10 Dominicans is a millionaire! 43 percent live in poverty and 25 percent live in extreme poverty. A social responsebility should be included. Education, healthcare and pensions are a vital ingredient. If you want to see some examples look at Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Austria, Australia, Canada, USA (- on health) and the Scandinavian countries...... just to name a few. Do not confuse a social conscience with socialism or communism as the Republicans would make believe. The aforementioned counties are capitalist, as this creates the base and are well functioning. Universities are free for A students as not to waste the brilliant minds of the poor. A well educated populous creates wealth for a country. Democracy is a lousy system, but still the best. Look at the Thread: Recession of 2008 and impact on the DR and the posts of Playacaribe2 and Onions/Carrots. Readers will be able to discern facts from fiction or propaganda............ sorry PICHARDO lying to yourself or pretending that problems do not exist just won't cut it. Facts and constructive criticism shows love for the country and the need to improve. The global struggle of the rich nations show the gravity of the situation. China and Russia are playing their own chess game but are subject to global events and the enviornment. As GB7 mentioned the top 10% will always live well, seems Pichardo is talking for them. In closing none of the political parties have a great track record nor do we homo sapiens. Can't we all just get along ![]() I'm simple minded, life is short be healthy and have fun! So I'm off to the beach, beer, girls and rum that's what the DR does best ...... simple. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
