from what i have read of your posts, you are quite friendly with that bloke, robert, who, as far as this board goes, has his finger on the button.

ask him if he would call his son jesse.

in england, it is common to call someone a "right jesse" when they are something between a "wally" and a "poof".

jesse, a term frequently used by 'del boy' (only fools and horses), would have such a complex after sufferring years of mickey-taking in secondary school, that his only friends would be "randy" and "john thomas".

i was going to go to bed....but you people are so funny that i am going to get another beer instead!

In the Bible, "James" is sometimes translated as "Santiago." My understanding is that "Santiago" was a shortened form of "St. James." With so many Bible names being translated so similarly to English, it does seem quite unusual.

While putting so much thought into your childs name take a few minutes to think how he/she having that name will affect them. An exotic name might sound very nice to you but to a child it sounds stupid and he is the one who will have to grow up with that name.

"Arne" has always been on my list.

Has anyone heard of ELAN? (I got this from a Nikon name for an SLR camera, which to this day I'm still eyeing to get sometime) The dictionary says it mean "vigorous spirit/enthusiam".

Pedro, Jacobo, Juan, Felipe, Andrés, Mateo, Tomás, Jacobo, Simón, Tadeo, Judas, Matías. Santiago is a saint.

I might be wrong, but 13 yrs. of stern Catholic education would have been in vane. A nice thought indeed.

He goes by Jamie most of the time. That's one of my favourite male names....Does anyone else read Diana Gabaldon's books? Mmmmm, Jamie.

Pib, you put Jacobo twice - isn't there an Apostolo Pablo? (I'm also a convent girl, y'know...)

Vego sounds very much like vago.
I just don't get it, where do parents find names like vego and counavo and myobanix etc.
Please give the kid a normal name which goes with the current trend. Give him a common name which every person from various countries can recoganize; after all, we are in the midst of globalization.

If you must punish the kid for the rest of his life, then do it right by naming him Osama, sadam or if you like something very dominican, call him "mondongo".

Default Name For My Son
Hello,
Im expecting a son in October, 2003 and I don't have a name yet for him. We skimmed through some Barnes and Nobles books and came across different versions of JAMES. I really like this name but my brother beat me to it.

Some dimunitives of James include - IAGO, YAGO and VEGO.

I love VEGO. Is this a spanish name? Does anyone know the history of the name VEGO?

An actor in the Lord of the Rings trilogy is named VIGGO Mortensen. But I like VEGO better.

Thanks for your response,
JUN

Just remember the kids will tease terribly a child with an odd name and IF it is difficult to spell the child will also get frustrated that no one can spell or pronounce their names...My daughter is Iranian descent and her name is Shirene..pronounced Sheer-een. She is still mad at me for that name as no one can say it. She is called SHI-Reen(Teachers really make her mad and she is in the 3rd grade). So what ever you name your child try to remember that he has to live with it and just because it looks good on paper does not make it good to live with in real life... Also unusual spellings of common names cause them problems I also have a son Branden..Not Brandon..My husband filled out the papers at the hospital and I did not catch the e in place of the o until it was too late..His name is never spelled correctly in his school records either..Just a different prospective for you..My 1/2 Dominican son is Eric Alejandro...so he has his grandfathers name included and an American name with easy spelling..Good luck and enjoy your son as they grow Older and Large very quickly! Pam
PS MAKE SURE THE INITALS OF YOUR CHILD DO NOT SPELL SOMTHING BAD..My mothers initials are DAM...She always told me that because of her childhood with those initials..

Sorry, but I can't answer your question, but I know I wouldn't have wanted to go through life with that name. The first thing parents should think of in selecting a "novel" name is what harm it might do to the individual who gets stuck with it.
