It all depends on our experiences which make up our realities. When my cousins and friends come to visit me in santiago area, they all seem to believe that most dominicans are white skinned latinos with super slim bodies. Now you have gringo tourists come to DR only to visit carwashes, sosua, boca chica whore houses or when they come to santiago, they end up in poor barrios, kelvin carwash, passion, ambis disco and feel they have figured it all out. You people are all a joke and should never give any info on dominican republic. Lets make a section for them "putas/sakies" and let them all spit it out there.
Girls like Amelia are like Dime a dozen in santiago area. I can show you places where your eyes will pop out like cork coming out of sosa's bat. Just stand outside of PUCMM or even UTESA university's entrance and watch how many emilias would come out every minute. Many have their own late model cars and many get picked up in BMW and SUV's. Come to Tribecca bar or Francifol cafe on weekends and count for yourself. I can count 1000s of amelias everyday at the locations I have listed above. Then again, I prefer that many of your folks (from DR1) don't find out about santiago's hidden secrets. This is the word among santiagueros, not to let in the gringos to spoil our girls and also to make us foreigners look bad. At least, santiagueros still respect us as foreigners as compared to what they think of the white trash interacting with the dominican trash in the resort areas.

I knew she had it once Brazil was out and S I work for an IT dept in a company that lacks of Spanish speaking employees. This morning, from the entry guard to my boss, cheered for me. “I knew she was going to win… That’s the reason why I love my Spanish women… She is gorgeous…etc”, were the king of comments I was listing to this morning. Alike Theresa, once Brazil was out I told my mother, “If Dominican Republic does not win, I will turn off all TVs in the house. No more watching Miss Universo”. I’ve always been proud of my nationality and always will be. Que viva la QuisQueya!!!

Felicidades RD!!!

She stood out last night, no doubt about it. And what poise for an 18 year old.

Worth noting also that she won the prize for the best national costume.

At any rate, besides looking at the parade of air heads I was paying close attention at the beauty of Panamá.

What do they have that we don't...the canal? I know there's a lot of poverty in that place but the beauty of their land is beyond belief.
Panamá city and Colón look not only clean but prosperous. Perhaps with all the new loans the Prez could send the DR in the same direction.

These women are all professional contestants, they are forever competing trying to get that final crown. But, I agree with you, Amelia does have a taste for publicity. I also hope she doesn't screw up.

De Acuerdo... Congrats!!!Golo was the first to predict this. How did he know? I knew she had it once Brazil was out and S. Africa slipped on the stairs. Not sure why Montenegro made it to the final 5.

Great post - DR_Defender!! Ameila Vega won on her own merits. She is a lovely, composed young woman who deserves the spoils of her victory. Viva Amelia.

AZB,

You make it sound like there are lots of Miss DRs tied to trees in Santiago.

Criss is right. I personally have not seen that many Dominican women on the drop dead scale of Amelia Vega.

That being said, if so many stunning women live in Santiago, I will have Amber release the ones that she has tied to trees for me in Playa Nagua.

Lets hear from the dominican rep. experts (2 time tourists to sosua): "she doesn't look dominican...."

Now you all see my point.....girls from the cibao region?
True dominican beauty is only found in santiago / cibao region. She is not a rare personality in DR, girls like her are found in abundance all over santiago region. So please spare me with your beliefs that dominicans are all resort workers, sankies, hookers and poor. The mojority of dominicans I know live better than most american, europeans.
Congrats to Amelia. The pride of santiago.

We welcome everyone's opinion here! If your's is different, fine. There is no point in telling others that they are:sick, stupid, arrogant, liars, racists, snobs, ignor ant, etc.,etc! It is just their view on the topic.Nothing more nothing less.Live with it!If all we did was post the exact same messages this web site would soon die.DR1,where "Man Bites Dog" is the headline!Cris Colon

Can you name a better predictor of upward mobility for a woman? Certailnly not personality....certainly not intelligence. In this cruel world, a "super body and beauty" are the most usable God given qualities. This even works , to a lesser extent, for men.

Big News! DOMINICAN CHOPA WINS MISS UNIVERSE!!!

I gues our kind is moving up in the world. She used a computer program to get ready. Kudos to her for being prepared for any eventualities. That's a smart girl...

Her question for the girl from S&M was brilliant. As I stated in a different thread you cannot answer that question without sounding stupid.

Did you all see that part of her prize is a "non speaking" part in a Telemundo novela. Imaginate.. what the episode would be like if either Canada or Montenegro was in it

You're right DR defender.. but golo did know that they both would be in the final 10 a least. I still think he should be a judge.

One thing I've been wondering though.

I don't meen to demerit our wonderfull candidate and now Miss Universe. But, no sería que, that what happened last year with Ruth could of influenced the judges' opinions this year. ONce againd, she has all the talent and it was well won, solo pregunto!!!

She also planted the fire and water question to the Montenegro girl, but this girl being more down to earth, got caught like a stupid jerk. Now this is funny. Miss Serbia/Montenegro did not understand her question at all. I love the way you blame Miss D.R. for her misunderstanding. Clearly there was a language barrier and Miss Serbia/Montenegro should blame her translator for not translating her question appropriately.

This girl has an appetite for publicity an is too self-centered. She will do just about anything to win. I did not like the way she flauntet the silk red cape with her bathing suit, as if she was fighting a bull. She was just like any Dominican chopa, who tries to be too flashy. Donald trump has himself another extra girlfriend. That easy!! Again I will repeat, she is only 18!! She did not have the experience that comes with age. Perhaps you are upset your choice did not win. My personal favorites were Miss South Africa and Miss Turkey. Just because Miss Amelia won, doesn't mean she "rigged the whole thing" and is a "self-centered girl", Golo. I'm sure all of those females are self-centered, afterall they were chosen to represent their countries of origin.

My two cents

..but MOST fish don't fly,and MOST squirrels don't fly,and MOST Dominican women don't look like Amelia Vega!!!!and the truth is MOST women in the whole World don't look like any of the women in the "Miss Universe Contest"!Thank God!
"Miss Universe" is a "business",owned by Donald Trump,he also owns "Miss America"!They are "buseness',no more,no less! Congratulations to all the contestants. There are no "Losers" there!
You ever notice that there are few,if any "Beauty Contests" for men? We don't like to be judged, and we couldn't stand to be a"Loser",or be "Rejected"!The whole idea of a "Beauty Contest" is just a stupid way to make women feel like a "commodity, and make $$$$$$ at the same time! No wonder "The Donald" likes them so much!! Cris Colon
