Photographer Collection: Horst Faas in Vietnam (UNCLASSIFIED)
 

Got this link in an email from a proud Vietnam Veteran. Some are pretty graphic so if you don't like stuff like this don't come whining back to me.

Horst Faas, a Pulitzer Prize-winning combat photographer who became one of the world’s legendary photojournalists in nearly half a century with the AP, captured these images during the Vietnam War. Faas died Thursday, May 10, 2012 in Munich at age 79.

Those photos are terrific. Horrible subject matter, but extraordinarily well done photography. Faas was a great photographer.

Amazing pictures. That "War is hell" picture with the writing on his helmet - that was my favorite one. That guy looks way too young to be fighting a war thousands of miles away.

This may seem like a stupid question, but that's never stopped me before. What was the Vietnam War really about? I am assuming no one believes the "communism" story.

Money. Same as all wars of modern times.

K- short answer. It was part of the cold war bullshit going on at the time. Proxy war between the USA (mostly USA) and NATO against the USSR and China.

"Born in Berlin, Germany, Faas began his photographic career in 1951 with the Keystone Agency, and by the age of 21 he was already covering major events concerning Indochina, including the peace negotiations in Geneva in 1954.

In 1956 he joined the Associated Press (AP), where he acquired a reputation for being an unflinching hard-news war photographer, covering the wars in Vietnam and Laos, as well as in the Congo and Algeria.

In 1962, he became AP’s chief photographer for Southeast Asia, and was based in Saigon until 1974. His images of the Vietnam War won him a Pulitzer Prize in 1965.

In 1967 he was severely wounded in the legs by an RPG (rocket-propelled grenade) and used a wheelchair for the rest of his life. In 1972, he collected a second Pulitzer, for his coverage of the conflict in Bangladesh.

Faas is also famed for his work as a picture editor, and was instrumental in ensuring the publication of two of the most famous images of the Vietnam War. The notorious "Saigon Execution" photograph."

That execution was shown live on tv in the states, prime time nightly news.

I'm actually trying to find an immigration lawyer in Paraguay. Israeli citizenship is a liability because of said corvée slavery; the opportunity cost of two years, especially at 18, is very high.

Why Paraguay?

1) Visa-free travel as good as most first-world passports - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_re...uayan_citizens
2) They are having so much trouble collecting taxes that they are delaying implementation of the 10% income tax.
3) It will be much easier to open up foreign accounts due to aversion of virtually every bank to dealing with yankees.
4) When is the last time someone took hostages and wanted to kill all the Paraguayans?
5) Like the Dominican Republic, they only require holding a permanent residency permit to obtain citizenship, as opposed to residency per se. This way, I just have to make two trips - one to do the paperwork, and one to become naturalised and get a shiny new passport.

Same reason as Afghanistan. Opium. Drugs. Resources. World domination. Evil.
