When I read the title of this thread, I thought it would be about guns.

Wonder what the author would say if he could comprehend an "internet"?

I don't even know if the author even mentions guns. There are many more ways to stay free.

Indeed. Stay below their radar in hiding, play their game and settle for as much "freedom" as they allow you, or live (and die) with a sword at your side.

My opinion: all truly free men are armed.

I agree. But better to be armed with reason than toys.

Perhaps. This is also how I see it (from a "reasoning" standpoint):

Freedom, in the political context, can only mean ONE thing: absence of interference from other men. If the "toys" you speak of can achieve SOME level of caution on the part of the aggressor, forcing him to DESTROY you as his only remaining option, then the "toys" have fulfilled their purpose and can be deemed to be of some value. They can eliminate me, but so long as I'm armed they cannot interfere with my actions while I'm alive.

They can eliminate me, but so long as I'm armed they cannot interfere (WITH IMPUNITY) with my actions while I'm alive. As they can always interfere I would suggest the above modification to your statement.

Those who interfere hire people who actually believe that they need to place their lives on the line to justify their office. You will never get within range of the one who actually placed them in your face.

This seems to be some sound advice upon ARMs.

Slavery was frowned upon in 1827 by this author. I doubt if he had envisioned the concept of VOLUNTARY SERVITUDE, an institution established by the 13th amendment to the U.S. constitution.

It would seem that the pen is mightier than the sword.
