Default Navy Drone Crashes in Maryland
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/s...,3468745.story

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An unarmed U.S. Navy drone aircraft crashed on Monday during a test flight in Maryland, plummeting into a marsh area around the Chesapeake Bay without injuring anyone or causing property damage, the Navy said.

The cause of the crash of the unmanned spy plane was under investigation, a Navy spokesman said. The incident took place near Bloodsworth Island, about 70 miles southeast of Washington DC, at around noon.

The drone that crashed was one of the Navy's Broad Area Maritime Surveillance-Demonstrators (BAMS-D), which is the Navy's variant of the Global Hawk high altitude surveillance plane manufactured by Northrop Grumman Corp.

A U.S. Coast Guard patrol boat is enforcing a 500-yard safety zone around the crash site, a Coast Guard spokesman said."

I/we all keep hearing more and more about drones in the U.S. The police state is pretty much complete.

i know they do a lot of drone testing at Fort Huachaca, in Arizona.

also that they used to do tests for the Israeli drone named "Heron" at Fort Huachaca.

what other bases do they do a lot of drone testing at ? i.e. just testing drones, not much else.

We need the dollar to die asap. Take away their funding before they can get too far.

I know, I know. I'm just saying that most of the people in this country will just accept drones flying over them as something they have to accept, rather than feel outrage over a government run so far over the line that they are literally flying spy craft over our houses and neighborhoods.

My guess is you're going to see a trillion+ dollar program in no time that will end up being used to catch speeders.

This was what I was thinking. Perhaps someone else was doing some testing of their own on how to bring one down. Jamming maybe?

Drones lose signal more than they let on. They also get hacked more then they let on. Its not very surprising really.

dang that sucker's big. I thought most of these things were too small for pilots, but that one would carry 2! I recall in that "new generation drones" thread, one of them they described had a 60' wingspan, that's in the ballpark of normal piloted planes.

I thought the exact same thing when I saw it, that's why I posted the picture along with the article. I had no idea they were that size

Down from Pilot error. The kid at the joystick controls spilled his red bull all over the keyboard and then tried to clean up the mess with cheetos fingers.

Or they downed it ON PURPOSE. Datamining of how the people react, what the wreckage looks like (Think Flight 93) and what stuff is recoverable.......Happens ALL THE TIME.
