By Andrew W. Griffin Red Dirt Report, editor Posted: May 12, 2012 reddirtreporter@gmail.com OKLAHOMA CITY – “Not for sale! Not for sale!” and “Follow the rules! Follow the rules!” That is what was being chanted by Republican delegates and attendees of Oklahoma Republican State Convention, as it moved out into the parking lot of the Embassy Suites in Norman late Saturday afternoon. Red Dirt Report received calls from UStream viewers from around the country after our name and phone number was posted filmed at the site of the rump convention. All of the viewers (and likely Ron Paul supporters) were very polite and informative and were wanting media to cover the unfolding events. As this political drama unfolded, emails flooded our Red Dirt Report inbox as well. Joseph wrote: “Romney tried shutting down convention. Ron Paul fighters conducting business in parking lot now.” Marie Mentesana, a photographer for Red Dirt Report, was quickly dispatched to the scene of the parking lot convention in Norman and along with another freelance reporter were able to talk to a number of conventioneers. As Mentesana explained: “The Oklahoma GOP was holding a delegates conference and they were not allowing everyone to vote. They shut down everything and left. They took it out to vote in the parking lot and the Ron Paul campaign sent them pizza.” “People are mad," added Mentesana, who also sent us several photos from the scene. In a voice memo Mentesana sent to us, one attendee explained to her that the convention was adjourned illegally and proper protocol was allegedly not followed by the party leadership. "We had to move it outside and adjourn it ... we were electing delegates for president," explained one man. In the background chants of "Ron Paul, Ron Paul, Ron Paul!!" filled the air. Pizzas were also being passed around to the hungry crowd. Indeed, Ustream.tv/channel/suriyahfish# was streaming the rump convention in the Embassy Suites parking lot. Everyone was excited when pizzas were ordered for the excited crowd. Some pizzas were ordered for the folks by people in the Netherlands. Axxiom for Liberty's Kaye Beach also kept us up-to-date on developments as day turned to night and a civil rump convention was conducted in the hotel parking lot. It is interesting to note that Mitt Romney visited Oklahoma City right before the convention, which was closed to most media. Red Dirt Report was not allowed to cover that visit, despite being allowed to cover the Romney's prior visit to Oklahoma City in October. Red Dirt Report attempted to reach Oklahoma Republican Party Chairman Matt Pinnell Saturday night and we were unsuccessful. If we do hear from Pinnell, we will be sure to add his comments as well. UPDATE: As we have discovered (and suspected) it was UStream viewers who paid for those pizzas, not the Ron Paul campaign. There may have been some confusion on the ground. Regardless, people were fed and people were clearly working to make things right. We hope to have more information on this political drama as it continues to develop. Thanks again to all the people who contacted Red Dirt Report today! UPDATE II: The rump convention adjourned at a little after 9:30 p.m. Freedom and liberty is alive and well in Oklahoma, despite the actions of some at the convention. The Daily Paul and UStream audiences really came through on this one. Thanks so much!! We have learned that Scott Mitchell on News 9's Sunday morning program Your Vote Counts. |

In what is an unorthodox turn of events, the Oklahoma Republican Convention has reconvened in the parking lot of the Embassy Suites in Norman, Okla. The state convention was held today inside the Embassy Suites with party officials calling for an adjournment at or around 5 p.m. From early in the day, old guard Republicans refused to conduct the official meeting according to established Republican Party rules. Party officials adjourned the convention without concluding scheduled party business and without the support of the delegates in attendance. Under parliamentary procedure, the chairman presiding over the meeting is present to keep order as opposed to leading the meeting according to a personal agenda. Several hundred Oklahoma Republican delegates reconvened the meeting outside of the hotel in accordance with Republican Party rules. At time of publication, the meeting continued outside in the parking lot under darkening skies. The meeting appears to have remained relatively calm despite predictions from the now suspended Santorum campaign that "[At the Oklahoma Republican State Convention, this Saturday] there will assuredly be a passionate struggle for control of the convention, the national delegation, and the party's future." A likely Ron Paul supporter commented, "I'm amazed at the level of composure, civility, and organization among these people in the parking lot." In what has grown into a contentious race, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney's campaign has resorted to tricks that are not usually used by a presumptive front runner against other members of his party. The Oklahoma State Convention was scheduled to choose another 25 delegates to the Republican National Convention today. Of the delegates chosen to date, approximately 60% are supporters of Texas Congressman Ron Paul. Over the past few weeks, Romney's campaign has suffered great losses in the face of a surging Paul campaign. The Romney campaign's aggressive reaction to Paul's recent success suggests the Texas Congressman is doing better than most in the media had initially realized. Republican delegates will meet August 27 in Tampa, Florida to choose a nominee. If Romney's campaign cannot recover, it risks losing the Republican nomination. |

Field report summary...from on the ground.
Basically, it went as follows: -Just as a side note: Paul supporters were mocked and ridiculed all day, warranted and unwarranted. They felt our presence and were irritated. -Our governor Mary Fallin, along with Tim Pawlenty stated that Mitt Romney is the official nominee. When we booed, we were then called Obama supporters by our own governor. -Chairman nominated himself (he didn't allow the time for someone to challenge him) -There was one slate that was to be voted either up or down. It was the establishment slate that they had written up. They then allowed a motion to vote for competing slates, only to be voted down against the new Santorum/Romney faction. -The convention closed without CD 1 issues being resolved -Paul delegates (and others) then took the convention and reopened it in the parking lot and took the majority of delegates. Whether this is legal or not, I do not know. It will be a bitter fight. |

I really have a bad feeling re this. The situation will probably be escalated further leading up to the Tampa Convention, with more and more blatant rule breaking by the establishment, unreported by MSM of course. Ron Paul delegates will be painted as aggressors, coup makers, even domestic terrorists, and establishment will get more and more heavy-handed... Possible mass arrests, maybe even start of civil war. Ron Paul has awaken many people who are able to think for themselves and know the score, idealists, who know when they are stomped at for no good reason...

Look guys, this thing is over and done with. The only question that remains is this one. How big and for how long will the coming dark age last ? This is not the beginning of the end, its just the tip of the iceberg. Get your ducks in a row, and enjoy your life. We will not bare witness to the next enlightenment. The criminal elite will clamp down upon the sheep with modern day weapons that will render even the most resolute amongst us irrelevant. These things do not get resolved in a matter of weeks or months, but rather in decades. And never ever ever do they get resolved through ballot boxes ! To be honest , I am surprised at the hope that many of you are holding out for. I guess its just human nature. MW |

Millwright without hope and love one has little reason to live...
Anyway realistic timeframes re dark age following empire collapse is centuries, look at Roman empire, however I think people on average became a bit more free and had to fend for themselves... However I think we are talking here about a descent into Tyranny with a maintenance of empire control, similar to Soviet Union, 1 or 2 generations tops, possibly shorter time, depends when the empire collapse... I do believe however that it is possible Paul can turn things around, but he needs at least a sizable minority of the establishment at least not going against him. The Bernanke breakfast meeting was interesting for that particular reason... |
