I wonder how much electricity is used to heat the plastic for the conversion, and if it would be possible to use solar power to fuel the system.

Hey, I just thought of something. Could you use insulated copper wire for this? That would be kind of awesome because you'd get oil + copper out of it.

I never understood why we use petrol based plastics at all. I think all 1-use items should be made out of biodegradable, infinitely renewable, hemp plastics. Petrol based plastics should be saved for things like medical tools and space shuttles.

The technology in the OP is absolutely amazing. It creates an economic incentive to voluntarily pick up garbage and recycle it into a product that is worth quite a bit.
