He just saw red': 99-year-old man divorces wife after discovering she had an affair SIXTY years ago
By Nick Pisa Last updated at 2:25 PM on 29th December 2011 ![]() A furious 99 year old man is divorcing his wife of 77 years after he discovered she had an affair more than 60 years ago. The couple, who have been identified only as Antonio and Rosa, have both consulted lawyers and the first hearing in the case is due to take place in March. Jealous father-of-five Antonio saw red after he discovered dust covered romantic letters from his wife to her secret lover during a clear out of their apartment in Rome. The couple had tied the knot in Naples in 1934, where Antonio had met Rosa after he had been sent there to serve in the carabinieri paramilitary police but she had had an affair with her unidentified lover ten years later, keeping the secret to herself until now. Lawyer Anna Orecchioni said: 'The husband decided to file for divorce after finding the love letters. 'He felt betrayed and unable to carry on with the marriage which has lasted 77 years. 'It made no difference that the letters were written more than 60 years ago and the relationship has been over for decades. ![]() 'He has decided to divorce her and the case has already been submitted for a court hearing in March. The couple have five children and numerous grandchildren and great children. 'It's a shame the marriage has ended in this way after such a long time together.' American couple Marshall and Winnie Kuykendall hold the current record for the longest marriage having been together for 82 years after they tied the knot on Valentines Day in 1929. I think love is a verb and we show we love someone by our actions. One of the ways your show your love is by being faithful to your spouse. If one of partners is unfaithful does the unfaithful one really love their partner. I don't think so. Rosa may have stuck with her husband but I suspect she loved her old boyfriend but couldn't have him. I'd have divorced her too.

The guy is 99 years old, hopefully he doesn't die over this. Gotta admire his set of balls though...the way the article is written, he's called 'jealous', like he is doing something wrong. A cheater is a cheater. No matter what gender. No matter what reason they had to do it. If you don't want to be with someone or there is someone else that you desire more, let the original person go. It's not worth wasting time and emotion over... And I think ximmy is right. No matter how old you are, it still hurts.... |

Truly heartbreaking, some of you might say... why bother at that age? Well, if he was truly faithful all this time and she wasn't, I'd be doing the same. More than likely finding this out is going to shorten his remaining lifespan drastically. She was dumb enough to keep her ex's letters this only shows the elderly man he was never truly loved, after 60 years this is the least he could do, not for payback, but maybe just a way to close the last chapter in life that was a lie. Now before you ladies lash out, this happens to both genders I'm aware men do this more often, women just are a bit better at hiding it.

Personally, I have one set of grandparents that truely loved each other, the other side not so much, and the in-laws couldn't stand each other. |

Very sad story. I couldn't imagine how it would have tortured him to find out she kept the letters. You can't keep stuff from people you once loved while you're with someone else...especially when you've cheated on them! I would have divorced her too as it does sound like he was not her first choice. Maybe she wanted someone to grow old with and took him because he was the first one she bumped into. How do you keep something hidden from your partner for 60 years? It's not fair to do that, especially with reminders such as letters.
