Default Take note of this SWAT team killing, LESSONS TO BE LEARNED
Local 31 y.o. owner of a welding business (and father of two young children) despondent over recent divorce sends photo of his hands on shotgun. Family members respond by calling cops* for a 'welfare check'. Deputies show up, see man holding a gun, call in the Sheriff's SWAT team. SWAT teams proceeds to hunt and kill despondent man.

* "(In the future) Avoid ALL contact with the police." --John B., a good friend who I used to do ridealongs with when he was an APD cop, he told me this while we were on a ridealong

Clearly the first rule SWAT teams are TRAINED to do: hunt down and engage (kill at first opportunity) targets.

Pay close attention to what dead man's close friend who witnessed the incident had to say.

Us vs them mentality at it's best...they didn't go there to "help" him

Once the deputies were on scene, the incident escalated. Deputies were able to talk Samuelson out of his trailer several times but never got close enough to restrain him. When he came out a fourth time, Wade told KXAN Samuelson pointed a shotgun at the SWAT team.

[He pointed a gun at officers],yes, that is the initial information we have from the deputies on the scene, that the man raised a weapon to them and they returned fire before he could should them," said Roger Wade, spokesperson for the Travis County Sheriff's Office.

Wade added that deputies were defending themselves.

Samuelson's best friend, Bruce Sandifer, told KXAN he along with Samuelson's family watched Samuelson get shot.

"To come up there and go through there and then hunt him down and kill him, no, that was uncalled for," said Sandifer who rushed to the scene to help his friend. "That was a straight up murder on Travis county's part today."

Sandifer said he tried to save his friend but deputies would not let him near the trailer. he tried to save his friend from being shot and they (the swat team) wouldn't let him do that...killing and covering up is their job

"Travis County sheriffs, they wouldn't let me go down there, they won't let you talk to him, nothing," Sandifer explained.

Sandifer told KXAN his friend never pointed a gun at police and that it was the police pointing guns at him.

"All he kept asking was for guns not to be pointed at him and the more he asked, the more guns were pointed," Sandifer added.

Don't you know, all those deputies were there to protect him from himself! But he obstructed them in the performance of their duties! Therefore they had to kill him in order to save him.

The problem that I see by all the killings by the SWAT team is that the victim ALWAYS hesitates before shooting instead of just plain shooting when the enemy is on site........if you are holding a gun that means war and in war you cannot afford to think about it.......and that why I say that I will probably die in my property because I will defended no matter what...the key word here is MY PROPERTY......think about your property...........why shit, you won't even defend your own country.

The media will never disclose what pharmaceuticals the man was on.

imo that's completely inconsequential here, what matters most is that: 1) more than one deputy responded, escalating the situation from the get-go; 2) SWAT was called in, ratcheting up the tension further; 3) all those deputies were pointing their guns at him (under Texas law pointing a gun at someone is correctly classified as assault, so they were assaulting him); 4) the deputies refused to allow his close friend (who traveled 60 miles to the scene) to go talk to him; 5) the SWAT team approached him to make an assault; and most importantly, we do NOT know the details in his 'pointing' a gun at deputies, for which they allegedly killed him.

Crucial lesson gleaned is what Ponce correctly observed.

Another lesson to be picked up from this: if you call for a 'welfare check' of a loved one, when the cops show up the very first thing in their mind is to 'take *the subject* into custody' until they 'sort things out'.

I think the point is missed entirely.

What law did this man break?

Who was the injured party?

Of course the justification for this murder is "he pointed his shotgun at deputies" (allegedly), prior to that he committed no 'crime' - unless you consider 'disrespecting LEOs' to be a 'crime'.

The question the community needs to be asking: why was a depressed man setup and murdered by so-called 'peace officers'? They failed miserably at keeping the peace in this situation.

I think the lesson to be learned here is if you call the police to go check someones "welfare", you have already insured it will be "not good" at best.

I don't know if I agree that Taxes = Rent.

If you are on a lot that has access to .gov supplis water, waste management, road maintenance, etc, you can say that those taxes are going towards those services, no?

Yes, you are right. And you can sell the property and recover value put into it. But stop paying taxes and they also will take your property and sell it for those taxes owed and you lose it all and you are evicted, with the loss of all value the property may have.

So taxes can be looked at as a form of rent, that if not payed, you are kicked off the land and lose everything that you put into it.

I hold to my original post, with this small modification.

Taxes = Rent, with some services provided.
