After Armageddon

First time I saw it on the history channel.
Food for thought?

I didn't think the first three parts about the pandemic were worth watching.

Fetowip 12-03-2011 11:45 PM

Yes EE, I did see that, I didn't think it was half bad.

Storwaytozy 12-03-2011 11:50 PM

I watched the first part of the first vid so far... really cool doom... but is the History Channel just playing with us?

I'll weigh in after I get through the rest of it...

edit: Why the fuck are they not armedhttp://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...milies/huh.gif??

The best thing to do is to have an illegal working for you as a guide because they have done all that before, and also because I would spect to see many illegals on the road and they would respect one of their own........Just call me speedy Miguel, instead of Ponce, from Tiohuacan Mexico.

I dunno... the dad character seemed like a pretty take-charge kind of guy. I kept expecting him to pull out the 700 and the XD... but he never did.

quottrethew 12-04-2011 02:14 AM

observations so far;
the husband reminds me of Ray Romano - scatter brained, no real plan, typical yuppie
the wife is a mess - probably wore the pants in the family during the good times but now is just useless
the kid is the smart one of the family - typical hollywood sit com of today
anti-gun message - never owned a firearm, immediately drop the gun after using it once and never pick up another one
...onto part 6

praboobolbode 12-04-2011 02:19 AM

watching now. I like the make the house look like it's been already looted. Makes sense.

I think the people were from Pasadena

smazibummigue 12-04-2011 05:27 AM

Sorry, couldn't get past the first few minutes. This show is for the general masses of scared sheep awaiting death at the hands of degenerative zombies. The guy ain't armed? Come on. The cop telling you its better to hide than fight (I guess if you're defenseless). The programming continues.........

ZESINTERS 12-04-2011 06:59 AM

To many this will be like a movie and that's it, nothing real about it.........for some it will be a wake up call and they will actually do something about it........I am glad that I got the HELL out CA.

Lvnufcdc 12-04-2011 04:53 PM

If I remember correctly, the show had a British producer. No guns there if you ignore the criminals, cops and government.

but is the History Channel just playing with us? You have to ask??

Recent Southpark episode - THC announcer: "The History Channel, where the truth is history...You're watching The History Channel, the only network dedicated to History. Coming up next, it's Monster Quest! Followed by Harry Bikers. But now back to part 3 of Ancient Aliens at Thanksgiving. "

I thought it was amusing being that they were fleeing form California.
It gave you a couple things to think about, but this scenario is only realistic if almost everyone was already dead.
It would never be this easy to flee California otherwise.

I agree Joe. Personally, I've seen enough violence to last a lifetime, if I could go unnoticed I'd sure be happy with that. Fly under the radar, is my plan.
Maybe in the hills of Kentucky or the Mountains of Montana but in California? Not a chance.

So you would go looking for a fight? IMHO, in a situation as depicted, even if armed you'd be better off avoiding a fight whenever possible.
That's not to say you should stand-down and just let others take your stuff, but rather if you can hunker-down with your supplies and hopefully go un-noticed, you'd probably survive longer than most.
ie every confrontation you'd have would include a chance of you not surviving it. If you avoid the confrontation altogether, you will most def survive it because it didn't happen.
That is the common sense answer. Unfortunately, its not so common........... BTW, no, I wouldn't be looking for a fight, but I sure as hell be protecting family/food.

I think there are some inportant take away messages from the video:

1. If you have to relocate out of a city you are at a huge disadvantage from the start, probably near fatal. Why go through all the trouble of preparing yet putting yourself at a huge disadvantage because of your location? If you're serious about preparing for a TSHTF scrnario, you must relocate to a rural area that is sparsely populated but having a sufficient number of like-minded neighbors.
2. No matter how prepared you think you are, it is never enough.

I just came back from a shopping trip and picked up a over one dozen cases of canned food, 12 dozen bottled waters, 30 pints of motor oil (for care and generators) and miscellaneous items to add to my collection. Mind you I have a 17 kW propane-powered generator, a 5 kW gas powered backup generator, a 500 gallon underground propane tank, a deep well/well pump and plenty of gasoline that I rotate. Backup in depth is the key as one thing or another may fail. I keep several cords of seasoned wood on the ready and I live on 10 acres of woods. More importantly, I am surrounded by likeminded neighbors who are mostly hunters and farmers and armed to the teeth.

Several day ago, I instigated a discussion with four church elders over dinner. I told them that the church needs to establish a food bank post haste and that I would be happy to donate seed money towards such. I told them that we need to begin comminity wide regular meetings to establish lines of communication (i.e. shortwave radio) and a defensive perimeter with sharing of arms, ammo and manpower. The elders were most receptive and endorsed these suggestions. We are having a first meeting next week. Such a conversation was unthinkable a couple of years ago. In my neck of the woods, there has been a sea change in folk's perspective on the future vis-a-vis security and self-sufficiency. There is a growing consensus that the time has come to begin preparing for the unthinkable.

If nothing else, the video made you think what information was missing and what misinformation was given.
