very nice river indeed... however, this picture http://www.manataka.org/images/Colorful%20River%206.jpg is not from this river but from "Quebrada del Jaspe" in Venezuela... another amazing creek.... ( http://www.google.ch/images?hl=de&q=...og&sa=N&tab=wi ) which doe snot have BP contaminating it, but "Chavez's Revolutiuon" destroying it... BTW, this creek in Venezuela was home of Phragmipedium klotzschianum.... last year when I was there (after 15 years) I could not find a single plant in about 2 Km I have checked...

not only is the colour beautiful, the scupting of the rocks is inspiring

as for the "Quebrada del Jaspe"... yes, it has become a major touristic bath... with all the consequences it brings.... I am not against letting people visit the natural beauties of a country and enjoying them, but what is happening here is actually destroying the place (although, I must admit the indigenous people try to control the amount of trash and litter, which have become almost inexistent). People are allowed to bath under the waterfall using soap and making BBQs around it... on a typical day, you can have several hundreds there.. The river is not seasonal, however during the dry season it has less water (natural http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif) but the "dry" season means raining only once per day, instead of the whole day... 15 years ago, there was a pretty large colony of Phrag klotzschianum there...

It's breathtakingly beautiful! I wonder if any of these colorful algae blooms produce toxins which cause the fish inhabiting the river to be inedible to humans or other predators. It would be quite the defense mechanism if it were so! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif

Beautiful and hard to believe at first glance. I've seen some pretty crazy algae growth in Florida (where I briefly studied it for a time) and in some of geothermal pools here and there (a famous one in Kyushu is called "the blood hell"), but nothing like that!
