Anthony Lane's review is up:
This new “Star Trek” is nonsense, no question (“Prepare the red matter!”), but at least it’s not boggy nonsense, the way most of the other movies were, and it powers along, unheeding of its own absurdity, with a drive and a confidence that the producers of the original TV series might have smiled upon. http://www.newyorker.com/arts/critic...ema_lane?yrail |

Well all I can saw is.......Awesome!
![]() This really is a total rein-visioning of the Star Trek universe. There is a very solid build up explaining how all the characters came together and what drove Kirk to be the way he was. Also it does have the Kobiashi Maru ( not sure how it is spelt lol ) in it! The acting was spot on and Spock looked like a spitting image of a younger Spock. Below I am going to post some spoilers: ***SPOILER*** Spock has a girlfriend and it is Uhura, like WTF! But it certainly gave him a much more human side, lots of anger in him! The guns were a bit disappointing, more star wars in the respect it was not a beam but a laser flying through the air and not as believable. The story itself, while time travel was totally cool. Going back in time, but not having a choice etc and Nero being angry. Bit surprised that both Spock could exist, and that Vulcan stayed destroyed... ****SPOILER**** Anyway, the pace of the film was excellent, a few slow moments. However one thing is there was a considerable amount of laugh out loud comedy! I highly recommend it even if you do not like Star Trek. |
