Default Baseball is too old fashioned!
The MLB is finally going to allow replays during baseball games. They should have done this years ago. Hopefully they are going to change some of their rules regarding the replay system like not allowing umps to say "No, we will not review that play."

They don't even show replays on the big screen at the Orioles' stadium. There are some other changes I would love to put in there like a pitch clock or limit on the number of pick off attempts.

I know baseball is suppose to be about tradition and blahblahblah but come on. This is the 21st century not the 19th. Even tennis has begun incorporating technology in its matches.

I doubt you'll get much conversation here, with many of the users not being from the US, but I'll chime in. I don't like that replay has been put into games, but as long as its only being used for home run calls, I'm ok with that. As for everything else, I figure if people are still going to games in droves (which they are) then they probably won't change much else...and to be honest, I don't want them to change much else.

Why don't you want to use instant replays? The way I see it we can correct the really bad calls and prevent some of the pathetic disputes between managers and umpires.

Half the fun of going to a Cubs game (happened way more with the Rays) is if Lou gets all pissed and starts throwing bases and getting into the umpire's face. [rofl] Anyway, if its available to more than home run calls, it'll just slow the game down even more.

I disagree. The umps already gather in a group to discuss controversial plays which eats up a few minutes. Using the replay system would most likely not take anymore time. I mean, is there a way they could make baseball any slower now-a-days?

And I forgot to mention in the original post: Yankee fans suck!

Edit - Do they show replays of controversial calls on your jumbo screen?

I'm so glad they finally brought replay in. I'd also like to see it used with calls at bases. Just about every game I've watched in the past week has had a blatantly missed call at first base.

Of course, I have no idea how they could properly implement a replay system for such calls...

I think if the pitcher intentionally hits a batter it should be called a strike not a free trip to first base.
This would promote more violence and bench clearing brawls.

I think they should allow managers a certain number allowances to use instant replay during the course of a game. And the replay should be used for any situation. For example - there is a bad call at the plate and the manager uses his replay. There's another bad call later in the game but the manager has already used his replay so the play is not reviewed. The NFL has done a pretty good job of incorporating instant replay in its games so I have no doubt the MLB could also implement a review system successfully.

Actually my recent poll may surprise you that there are more North American visitors to this board than there used to be.

One thing that does need to happen in MLB though is to prevent boring games (like the recent Twins vs. Rangers in which the final score was 1 to 0) remove someone from the outfield in the 7th and 8th innings and we'll see some mad scrambling for that ball!

A pitcher's duel can be just as entertaining to watch as a slugfest.

I normally only chime in on a thread when I have something to actually contribute, however....

Baseball is absolute the most boring sport there is.....IMO of course. I cant imagine much that they can do to make this sport interesting.

Of course just about all major sports I find to be crude, un-interesting and time-wasting.

That's cool. You're entitled to your opinion. And we won't hold being a nonathletic nerd against you.

Lol, you hit the nail on the head...I guess Im just bitter because I was never any good at sport activities....Mabye one day I will stop being so closed minded about sports and such. My wife has been wanting us to join a local softball league, that could be good for me.

I don't care about baseball. I haven't since I was young. And the latest doping scandals haven't piqued my interest anymore.

I like the sport, I just don't care about the major leagues anymore, I guess.

I don't know how they get fans like me back other than being traditional. I like the classic baseball of the 80s. But I don't think that means being archaic and avoiding technology.
