![]() The US government’s unmanned Predator and Reaper drones are continuing to fly remote missions overseas despite a computer virus that has infected the plane’s US-based cockpits, according to one source familiar with the infection. Government officials are still investigating whether the virus is benign, and how it managed to infect the heavily protected computer systems at Creech Air Force Base in Nevada, where US pilots remotely fly the planes on their missions over Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere. “Something is going on, but it has not had any impact on the missions overseas,” said the source, who was not authorised to speak publicly. Armed tactical unmanned planes have become an increasingly valuable tool used by the US government to track and attack individuals and small groups overseas, but the virus underscores the vulnerability of such systems to attacks on the computer networks used to fly them from great distances. Wired magazine first reported the virus infection on its website on Friday in the US and said it was logging pilots’ every keystroke as they remotely flew missions over Afghanistan and elsewhere. The virus had resisted multiple efforts to remove it from Creech’s computers, Wired said, quoting network security specialists. SOURCE : WIRED |

Wouldn't it just be rich irony if it was a stuxnet variant. Oops, the Isrealis bite us in the ass once again.
All this wiz bang computer controlled crap is going to be our downfall. In regards to China and Russia, they might not be as high tech, but a piece of machined steel will never be subject to "viruses". |

Things are looking up. vid @ link titled Defense contractors plan to send hundreds of thousands of notices. Layoff threats put Congress on notice Facing economic uncertainty, defense contractors are plotting to spur Congress to nix the automatic budget cuts set to begin next year. The plan? Threaten to send out layoff notices — hundreds of thousands of them, right before Election Day. Congress, industry leaders contend, has left them few options. Federal law, they say, requires employers to give notice of 60 days to workers facing layoffs. For President Barack Obama and congressional incumbents, the timing couldn’t be worse. With the automatic cuts, called sequestration, set to begin taking effect on Jan. 2, the layoff notices would have to be sent out by Nov. 2 — four days before this fall’s elections. “I’ve been told by some of our major employers that layoff notices are going to come before the election,” said Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), a member of the Armed Services Committee and a vocal critic of the automatic cuts. “It’s dangerous and irresponsible for Congress to play with this.” Under sequestration, New Hampshire could lose more than 3,000 full-time jobs during the next fiscal year, according to a study by George Mason University’s Center for Regional Analysis. Across the country, more than 1 million jobs would be at stake. ... |

Why would they admit and then publicize they were infected? Maybe they are seeking more funding. |

"As we rely more on Internet and cyber applications for your security and protection, it is becoming clear that threats posed by the interconnectedness of global communications systems and cyber-security are far-reaching. As such, I have signed into law today, and executive order, that will, will, will, separate and dislocate all public networks, from any connection to DHS and secure government channels. This new law, which goes into effect now, will provide for an Internet and commercial activities on the Internet, that are robust, secure and safe. It will also allow, for our, for our, for our great Country, to continue to maintain our security and the security of the entire, entire, well the fucking planet. You may see some initial disruptions to your Internet access to non-commercial or non-corporate main stream media sites over the next several days. This will increase as we implement the new safeguards to our cyber-security enabled control grid. I, I , I , I am sure that these, these changes, will be of the most positive, I say, say positive results in terms of our ongoing efforts to secure you. Thank you and no, um, no, um, no questions today, sir."
