It's not so unusual.
Aston martin did that several times, the 1990 model (was in Vantage as well?) used Audi 100 (C3) front lights and VW Scirocco Mk. II Rear lights. Later, the DB7 employed 1990 Mazda 323 F rear lights. You'll also find a lot of early 1990ies Peugeot switchgear in every Lotus. But even the most expensive one, the Bugatti Veyron, uses Skoda Superb Mk. I headlights, a fact not too often stressed by owners ![]() |

The VW 2.5 5cyl actually shares very little with the Lambo engine. You could go as far as calling it two different engines (Only basic bore/stroke; but material, cyl. head, dry sump in Lambo etc. are more than minor differences). In this case, we would have to bring up again Aston, their V12 is basically two Ford Modeo ST V6 engines mounted inline. But again, modifications.
Anyway, these engine relations are way of simply using visible exterior parts form other cars. Actually most small series/kit cars use a lot of "shared parts", no wonder, developing these standard parts would be out of the stretch of a small manufaturers budget and probably know how.So maybe we should concentrate on well known big brands, like Mg, Aston Bugatti,... BAck to the Veyron: Imagine someone saying around 1990, presentation of the Bugatti EB110, "next Bugatti will share parts with a Skoda" LOL - sure ticket to lunatic asylum ![]() |
