Olympics

surprised there hasnt been a thread.
What an opening ceremony that was! Best of luck to the Vancouver and London planners to top that...

MaigicyuNinia 09-08-2008 01:55 PM

agreed, fantastic show, the moveable type face characters were amazing, and the large globe.

as much as I want vancouver to create a spectacular opening ceremony, they will not, since most we don't have the budget nor the people that can achieve it, but prove me wrong, prove me wrong.

Amazing opening ceremony... looking forward to the rest of the Olympics!
Go team GB!

Siliespiriulk 09-08-2008 09:45 PM

And to think that there are people out there would rather have new programs to watch so as to be able to ignore the Olympics entirely.

i'm a sucker for drumlines, so I thought the beginning was the best part.

bely832new 09-08-2008 10:41 PM

Hard to argue with the precision, especially with the number of people in each act.

The Chinese put on a great show, for sure.

Now to the games...

casinobonuscxz 09-09-2008 12:09 AM

Aw I missed the opening ceremony!

Does anybody know where I can find the basketball schedule?

*Playergirl* 09-09-2008 12:16 AM

check on Yahoo Sports. they have a schedule for everything.

estuapped 09-09-2008 12:20 AM

yeah either check yahoo or nbcolympics.com the opening ceremonies were great (they always are!) but i loved the drumming at the beginning especially when they lit up for the countdown. and the portion with the moving blocks in the middle that turned out to actually be people, pretty awesome!

casefexas 09-09-2008 01:49 AM

I live in Vancouver... and I can see from what they're building (I live out of the city so I can see much of the Vancouver skyline from where I live) that they may well top China in terms of venues and buildings. As for the opening ceremonies, they're probably going to plan much of the same thing according to the local news

The History of Canada -> First Nations Tribute (american indians to you guys down South) -> ?

But I gotta say, the coordination of those performers is just crazy...almost robotic, even.

Galvanoidum 10-08-2008 01:18 PM

Yeah I'm in Vancouver too. They are using BC place for it, so Its going to be awful.

*Playergirl* 10-08-2008 11:14 PM

arent they renovation BC place into a retractable dome?

...They're keeping BC Place as-is for the Olympics?! I remember reading about the new roof, but I thought that was an obvious addition for the games.

*Playergirl* 10-09-2008 02:22 AM

yeah I thought they were renovating it as we speak?

lol the seats, washrooms needed replacing anyways.

casefexas 10-09-2008 06:26 AM

Wow, good to know there are a lot of Vancouverites here at CSS. I can't believe they are using BC place for it, I see about 11 cranes near the False Creek/Plaza of Nations area, I thought they were creating a whole new stadium there =\
As for BC Place, that thing is tiny. I have a feeling the 2010 Olympics' opening ceremony won't be talked about as much as Chinas. I honestly see no way how VANOC can actually pull off something better.
And the mascots do look kinda funky... if I saw them for the first time not knowing where they came from, i'd say they were for the Nagano Olympics =\
