Default Dream Job
What is - Sensibly - the job that you really want to get to do? Within your area, I imagine (so if you are a creative writer dont say you want to be a thermonuclear scientist)...
So whats the down to earth job you'd dream of? and the not so down to earth one?
For me, studying industrial design, the not so down to earth one would be working for a car manufacturer, in particular of course, the car manufacturer which made the car that has saved my life twice, and on which I was nearly born in. Yes, Land Rover.
The more down to earth job, I plan on studying something more to do with journalism/creative writing further down the line, So I wish I could get a job, writing in a car magazine.

I want to start off by working at a car dealership after college. then working my way up to possibly owning my own. Or if i'm not making any progress with it, i want to work for the coporate part of a car company doing print ads (magazines, billboards) and commercials.

Trust me Steve, I wanted to do exactly that before, sell cars. But its such a pain of a career. I mean, at the end of the day, you're exactly that, a seller. You do everything possible to bargain with a client for the price of a car. They wouldn't care, at the end of the day, about your knowledge about it, but they would about how good you are at the pretend game, how good you are at selling....

Well sadly I don't think I'll ever shake my deep-seated desire to design cars, but I've resigned myself to the somber fact that I've neither the background nor the natural ability to do so.
For almost as long as I've drawn cars, though, I've wanted to go into advertising. I see myself fulfilling an account management position after college, and hopefully working my way up to the top of an agency and/or starting my own.
Then there's always the possibility of working in marketing, which I'd ideally do at a car company... I'm currently researching possibilities in that field, as the money is generally better than working on the agency side, and that way I'd be more directly connected to the auto industry.
Of course, this all remains to be seen Nice idea for a thread.

Fully agree with the statement, I'd would have love to have been a car salesmen but I'm to honest
Now I think PR for a car company would be my thing and its achievable

I think you have the talent. Your linework and ideas are very good, but If you dont feel you would like to do it for a living, then thats more than understandable. For me, getting into industrial design to get into transport design and so on is a very long call, and sometimes I feel I better give up before I waste all my money and time. But I'm enjoying it nontheless, so I thought I'd give it my best shot and If I'm not good enough, thats fine...
Marketing... top stuff. It seems we have a few people interested in it... Good luck!

I've always wanted to become a car designer, ever since I started drawing them when I was five. Unfortunately, a lack of skill and parental support drove me away from that as a professional career, and I've landed myself a straight track guaranteed future as a doctor, which isn't too shabby. I love helping people, and having the ability to actively make people have better lives is an amazing prospect to me.

Thats a good and enjoyable job. Go for it.
Ever since i was 5 or 6 i've been drawing cars. My dream job will be my job. When i first decided that i wanted to become a car designer, i have never changed my mind. I know i will have to work and study hard. But if you put your mind to it, you can do anything. So i will become a car designer, but i know its hard work but im up for it. Hopefully/Maybe one day i might even go into F1 design. Anyway, thats my dream job/future job.

Or the mayor of my area. I would be a bloody good one.

Now, now mate. I am in the same boat. Long call, to become a car designer, and I wish you all the best. But "if you set your mind to it you can achieve it" is a bit of a cliche, so you can't know for sure if you'll ever become one. But trully, best of luck, I know what it's like. I've been drawing since before I could remember, and nothing I would like more than become a car designer. But if that fails, I have a few alternative side routes

I'm being dead serious, but if I grow up I wanna be a trophy dad. Similar to a stay-at-home-dad, except I just live off the merits of my sucessful wife. I just sit there, look good, and back her up. While it does sound very difficult and very complicated, I recon I'd love to do that and would be good at it. Even better, that would mean I would get to drive the family SUV! God that would be the maddest job ever.

Haha, top stuff. Wouldn't you get bored though? I mean, TV shows aren't particularly good during the day....
