Default Windows Vista
Just curious, Vista has been out for about two weeks. Anyone get a new computer or get the upgrade? I'm trying to decide if I should.

I got the upgrade. Vista Ultimate. I love it. Haven't felt this wam and fuzzy about an OS since I saw the beta of Windows 95.

Exactly. I will be sticking with xp sp2 until it is ran to the ground :1winksmile
Then Mac and PC would be in the running as the replacement...

My dad has a Mac OS X while mine is a Windows XP HE. I think it works fine. But, I have an unknown urge to just get the Vista.
I heard the Vista is pretty good. I just don't know which version to choose. There's so many. Probably I'd go for the Home Premium.

exactly! im sticking with xp too. i dont need the gimmicky upgrades and a modernized looking toolbar and whatever else it offers. i can live with xp for 2 more years until vienna comes out, when its supposed to really change. then ill upgrade to vienna and skip vista altogether, if i can.

I tried it out on a friend's computer. Brand new Toshiba, Core2, 1 GB RAM, Vista Premium. My Mac mini on a Core Solo and 1 GB of RAM can run OS X so much faster than his Toshiba can run Vista. Definitely not an incentive to switch back to Windows or to upgrade the xp that i have on my Mac.

How did you test the speed?
I've seen Vista Media Center with HD 1080P.....I've seen the light. DirectX9 is a brute.

It was just slow. No actual speed test, but it took over 10 minutes before it finished booting. And 83 processes running at start-up. I doubt virus scan and spyware detector take up that many processes.

I've had Vista Home Premium for two weeks or so now (Campus computer store was selling updates for $70 so why not) and it is awesome. the graphics and fonts are really user friendly and everything is exactly where it always should've been. there are a few minor issues but nothing too serious. also, Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise is amazing.

I'll update my computer in a few months, when Microsoft have ironed out all the bugs they are yet to discover in Vista. There is bound to be a few key issued they will find and hopefully fix them so when I get the system it'll work fine.

newegg.com has OEM of Vista Ultimate copy for $199.99. It doesn't come with a manual or anything, jus the CD. I think I'll order it.
I'm really interested in taking advantage of Windows Media Center. Plug in cable in my computer and then us WMC as Tivo.
I suppose I could also get an HDTV tuner card for my PC.
Anyways I'm all about HD 1080p these days. When I saw King Kong on HD-DVD...it was amazing.

I don't feel any urge to update, right now. XP is fine with me, and the eye candy is not enough reason to suffer from all the early bugs that Vista surely has. Besides i heard that the certificates in Vista are a kick in the balls...

Vista is definately faster than XP. Boot-up is faster, file browsing is faster, IE is faster, downloading is faster (that surprised me).
Anonms, did you test with one of the RCs or retail Vista?

I absolutely hate Vista.
I've had it for 2 and a half weeks, 1 week on my comp and my dad's got a laptop from work that its been installed on (he's a programmer) Theres a nonexistant file somewhere on my C drive named exec.exe and theres a pop-up that asks me to allow or cancel the program and it comes up every 5 minutes. Bitlord works like crap for me, Aero makes everything slow even though i have a decent video card and a gig of RAM.
My recommendation is to stay with XP for a while,
